Hi Team WP,

St Georges Day

Today is St Georges Day, the Patron Saint of England.
Here is a story about St George. You could have a go at making a shield  or sword and pretend you are St George defeating the dragon. You could draw a dragon or make a flag for England.

Seesaw - Online Learning Platform

23/4/2020

As a school, we are committed to ensuring your child gets the best possible education that we can offer. The current circumstances are proving to be a bit of a challenge for us all and we know that education is quite difficult at the moment whilst we are facing this pandemic.

With this in mind, we have subscribed to the online platform ‘SeeSaw’. SeeSaw is a platform that allows teachers to set home learning for each child in their class and we will be using this to set homework and inform you about weekly learning.

The  attachment document below gives information about how to use Seesaw. Parents should have received a letter with instructions for logging onto Seesaw. If you are having difficulty with this please call school.

Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Life and parenting can be challenging in normal situations. The situation we find ourselves in currently is far from normal.

We have put together a number of useful links and documents, as well as advice on how to deal with some difficult situations you might find ourselves in. Please take a look at the information below and do not hesitate to contact school if you would like any additional information regarding these topics or anything else you need advice and support about - if we cannot help, we will know who can.

Sir Linkalot Spelling Support

21/4/2020

Sir Linkalot (which is a fantastic app to support spelling) is kindly giving all parents and schools free access during lockdown to enable children of all ages (4 years old upwards) to have Sir Linkalot Time at home. There will be a daily midweek 30 minute show online, starting this Thursday at 2 o'clock, on Sir Linkalot's Facebook page and Youtube channel, featuring Countdown's Susie Dent. There are two obvious benefits in using this whilst children are currently learning form home: one, it would most definitely raise their literacy levels and, two, it would make life a whole lot easier for you! It is not solely for spelling, however. It's covering the whole of the technical requirements of literacy, i.e vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns. So, it very much applies to older children as well.
To access the content, you can do this in one of two ways, either downloading via the App Store or on a laptop/PC. Please note, once you have downloaded the app from the App Store (small problem with Androids at the mo), tap on the log icon (for 'Log in') at the top right.  You can also view it on a laptop or PC. Type in the browser itself (not a search engine)...
app.sirlinkalot.org and follow the above instructions (the log icon is for 'log in'). Further information of log on details will be sent out electronically.

Keep up your super spelling :)

This week we are learning about halving and sharing fairly. The Numberjacks video below has some examples of sharing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeXTDYS3E-4

In the video the paper plates on the beach are similar to the "part part whole" model in your packs I sent home. Practise sharing different items into two equal groups using the worksheet I gave you.

You could share food with the Hungry Caterpillar and see how many you started with and how many you each have after you have shared them fairly. You could double the number of items in your group to see how many the Hungry Caterpillar started with.
Have fun!
