This half-term in Team EO Reception children have started their writing journey within their RWI lessons. They have learned how to sit at the table correctly and how to hold a pencil using the tripod grip. Each day that a new sound is taught they are also taught how to form the letter correctly using the RWI letter formation rhymes. In provision, they have different fine motor activities that help strengthen their hand muscles that help them prepare for writing.
The Year 1 children have spent this half-term focusing on letter formation, ensuring they form letters starting and finishing in the correct place, using Fred Fingers to spell words and practised writing tricky red words.

This half term in Literacy Team CW have shared lots of  stories relating to our termly theme of All about me.  Each week they have a different talk through story through which they learn new vocabulary and practise the skills of listening and responding to questions.
In daily phonics lessons they have been practising learning new sounds, and familiarising themselves with the structure of daily Read  Write Inc lessons.  Team CW have been practising  hearing sounds in words using Fred talk to blend the sounds in  CVC words.  Each day they have practised forming letters in their phonics books using  a tripod pencil grip.
In the continuous provision the children are provided with lots of opportunities to write , such as  writing lists in the home corner  and writing their names on their pictures.. There are also lots of daily opportunities to mark make and  develop strength in  hands and fingers needed for writing.
