Spelling has a significant emphasis in the revised National Curriculum. The need for children to apply correct spelling patterns and rules to their writing has never been more clear. With that said, at Wombwell Park Street Primary School, we aim to support our learners in any way we can in order to achieve this goal. As such we have spent time refining our classrooms to ensure they are full of vocabulary to reinforce spelling patterns. This include words which are relevant to the Year Group expectations displayed clearly around the classroom, as well as homophone displays and individual spelling packs for children to refer to in daily learning. Some of the resources and displays can be seen below.

We have been working really hard to develop the quality of our handwriting in our school books. To do this we have been working on implementing a new approach to handwriting. Classes really enjoy time within the school week to practice their skills and ensure their letter formation is legible and accurate. To raise the profile of this throughout school, we use initiatives such as Handwriting Heroes to encourage our children. Certificates can be handed out for those children who are consistently making improvements in their handwriting, as well as working being displayed in classrooms to show the pride taken in children's work.
Writing is such a huge element of the curriculum and therefore we need to ensure that the displays we provide children with are purposeful and supportive to assisting them in developing the skills they need to be independent, accurate writers. With this in mind, we use a GASP approach to writing throughout KS1 and KS2. This is reflected in the displays we have in classes for children, so that they are always clear of the writing journey they go on. Check out some examples below.
