During the Autumn Term, Team LL developed character descriptions after analysing devices and strategies applied in Stormbreaker. The class wrote a character description of Alex: developing character through – actions, interactions, dialogue and description. Pupils wrote letters to Alex giving reasons for and against taking the mission. As a class, they also developed detailed accounts of Alex’s journey through the Dozmary Mine. The children applied their understanding of strategies identified in the novel to create their own imagery, build suspense and create a sense of pace. Team LL also wrote biographies of Guy Fawkes. As part of our geography topic ‘Extreme Earth’, the children also developed non-chronological reports based on a chosen subject (e.g. volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes).

During the Autumn term Team AC have been busy writing in various different forms to Katie Morag. They have considered different genres of writing throughout the term and the styles that these texts have. For instance, they have written a letter to Katie, as well as also creating some descriptive writing about new places linked to her adventures. Non-chronological texts have also been taught which allowed the children to demonstrate their ability to include new geographical vocabulary in an appropriate context.
