Throughout Autumn 2, Team DB have focussed on fiction and non-fiction texts including newspaper reports (based on the Lundhill mining disaster) and diary writing (from the perspective of a child working in a coal mine). We have consolidated skills from previous learning and acquired new skills, such as the use of emotive language, adverbials for time and cause and the use of different clauses in our writing. When writing our own newspapers, we considered the layout and organisation of an article and incorporated this into our own writing methods. Within our diary writing, we focussed on gathering the evidence of what it was like to be a child miner during Victorian times, taking into consideration the treatment of the children in the 1800s. The children were very enthusiastic learning about the life of a child miner and used their research skills to find out as much information as possible from various sources.
