Spring 1 - Team CH

In Writing this half term, Team CH have focused on using the text driver, Inside the Villains by Clotilde Perrin, to write an alternative beginning to the well-known tale of Hansel and Gretel. The class spent time exploring the original text, becoming familiar with the characters and themes, as well as looking at alternative versions of familiar tales such as The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!
After this, they discussed how they could change the story while still keeping the main characters. This led to Team CH deciding to write their own alternative beginning.
As it was a narrative text, this gave the children plenty of opportunity to refine skills learned in the Autumn term, such as using expanded noun phrases for detail, as well as applying newer writing skills such as adverbials and direct speech. The class worked hard to recall speech rules in their writing to show when words were spoken.
Their final pieces were fantastic, and the class should be very proud of their efforts!
