We have listened to ‘Sparkle in the Sun’ and have learnt to sing this using the on screen words – the children are particularly good at the chorus. We have moved to the beat and discussed how the beat is ‘Steady’ like a heart beat throughout the song. We have discussed how the long notes are on the end of the lines in the chorus and we have used actions to show understanding of short notes (tap tap tap with fingers – jumpy notes) and long sounds (we opened up our hands wide to the length of the note). We have used the Glockenspiels to play a G drone, a simple GA pattern and a GAB pattern to accompany the chorus of the song. We have looked at the instruments and discussed how the higher pitched notes are smaller in size and the lower pitch notes are larger in size. The children were also made aware that there is more than 1 G note on the instrument and we played them to find out how they are different.
