As part of our Science, we have been hard at work looking at our new topic of plants. The class had some knowledge already of plants, but we have continued to build upon this. We begun by looking at how we know plants are living organisms, discussing their need for food and water and that they breathe and grow. From this, we looked more specifically at flowering plants. We then identified and sorted a range of plants based on whether they were flowering plants which produced seeds or fruits or not. Using real flowers, the class explored the features this plant had. We used key vocabulary such as stem, roots, leaves, flower to describe and label. From this we began to orally discuss what their function might be, an area that we will further explore next week. We concluded our learning by heading outdoors to compare the flowering plant to a tree and discussed the similar and differing features such as a trunk.
