It has been road safety week in school and we have been learning about how to be safe in nursery too. In our outdoor area, we got out our balance bikes and scooters and spoke about how we must always wear a helmet when we are riding them to keep us safe. We chalked a road onto our playground floor and the children learnt how to steer their bikes safely around. We added some hoops and cones and some children were able to move in and out of these as they rode. We also used the hoops as traffic lights and we learnt the rhyme "Stop at the red light, orange in between, go go go when it changes green." On our way to welly walk, we practised crossing the road safely on our school drive. We learnt to stop, look, listen and think before we crossed over. We know we need to look and listen for different vehicles that may be on our school drive. We sang a song to help us remember:
This is the way we cross the road, cross the road, cross the road, this is the way we cross the road, we stop, we look and we listen.
