Our science enquiry for this half term was Problem Solving, and Team DB looked at the effect of chain reaction. The children had to design their very own Rube Goldberg machine! They researched other Rube Goldberg designs and discovered that there were many different components that set off a chain reaction, causing movement from point A right through to the end, point B. The children were allowed to use cardboard, cotton reels, tubes, books, lego, wooden train pieces, marbles, cars, you name it, they could use it! The only problem was, they were only allowed to set off their chain reaction at point A, and they had to have at least four different parts to their chain reaction, allowing it to run through to the end unaided. Once again, Team DB had to work in teams and many groups had to look at their designs, evaluating them to see if they could improve their designs so as the chain reaction would work effectively. The children had great fun, and were ecstatic when their chain reactions worked!
