This week our learning has been focused around the question “What is a family?”. Our book of the week was “Owl Babies”. This week we have learnt that there are different types of families we know that; there is the traditional family, some children only live with one parent, some children have two mums or two dads, some children can have step-families and that we all have an extended family made up of our aunties, uncles, cousins and grandparents. We have enjoyed discussing our special people during a circle time and sharing why they are special to us. This week we have learnt how to use the powder paints and we have continued to enjoy mixing primary colours to create secondary colours. Our activities have included junk modelling members of our families, drawing a picture of a special person and our funky finger activities has been to thread pipe cleaners through the holes in small balls. Reception children have continued to work in their RWI groups to learn new sounds – they are learning to say pure sounds, write the sound saying the handwriting phrase and to blend sounds in words to hear a word using ‘Fred Talk’. Some children have begun to use magnetic boards to learn to blend. In Maths, we have been focusing on the composition of 2,3 and 4. Children know that 2 is made of 1 and another 1, 3 is made of 1 and 1 and 1, and 4 is made of 1 and 1 and 1 and 1. Here are some pictures of our collections of 2, 3 and 4! Year 1 children have continued to perfect their letter formation and reading and spelling of some tricky red words. In Maths, we have continued counting within 100. This week we have focused on using a number line and identifying the number that comes before each multiple of 10. In Computing, we focused on our mouse skill. The Year 1’s learnt how to use the Paint app to create a picture! In Geography, we learnt to name and locate the capital cities of the United Kingdom and we have begun to learnt the surrounding seas! We have a fun song to help remember the capital cities - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvDIZoQLgIE!
On Thursday afternoon we had our first Welly Walk of the year! We were very excited about this, we learnt how to keep safe on Welly Walk, walked down super safely and had fun exploring our nature reserve!
