Wombwell Park Street Primary School is a really happy school, with really enthusiastic, friendly and hard working children. We have a committed, approachable and knowledgeable staff team! We pride ourselves on working as a TEAM. Children and staff strongly believe ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’ – our school motto! At the heart of the school is our policy on building and modelling positive relationships and respect...every visitor always comments on how warm, caring, welcoming and respectful our school community is and this is something we are truly proud of.
Daily, we try to ensure that we provide a safe setting for all children and aim to engage and excite learners. We do this through strong curriculum intent and an amazing school environment. All of our children are valued equally, are very well supported and are empowered to do their best and enjoy learning. Performing Arts and Sports are held in high regard and staff work really hard to ensure the curriculum subjects are taught rigorously, but where children are well supported. We are an incredibly inclusive school in nature and welcome and celebrate uniqueness and diversity. We teach the children about acceptance, the rule of law and respect. We actively encourage the children to support each other, teaching them about the brain, how this impacts our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how we can best support each other to make each other the best versions of ourselves. Respect is key and is expected to be modelled by everyone - children, staff, Governors and parents.
We really value parental involvement and have worked very hard over previous years to ensure parents are fully involved in the daily running of our school e.g. stay and play sessions, reading / writing workshops, information sessions and through our 'WPSPS Parent Group'. We hold BIG coffee mornings every term and smaller ones every week, where parents can drop in and chat to our Parent Support Advisor and discuss any issues and also they may take part in adult learning courses. We invite parents in for performances and try to work with parents on their child's academic achievements as much as possible. We welcome parental feedback and involvement in school life and value strong working relationships for the good of the children. Our door is always open to parents and we enjoys some very positive relationships, founded on mutual respect. We are firm believers that if the children's parents are not OK, the children won't be either, so we always want to support where we can.

During the past 8 years, our school has experienced some significant and welcomed growth! In September 2016 we opened three new classrooms, which we had had built on to the back of the school. This was in response to elevated birth rates in the Wombwell area and more parents in our local community wanting to send their children to Park Street. We had our admission number increased from 34 to 50 over previous years and now have an increased and permanent intake of 45 children each September in to Reception. We take great pride that our community wants to send their children to our lovely school and thank them for this.
I feel we have a wonderful balance of staff early in their teaching career and some very well established and strong teachers at our school, all who work hard to offer the best possible educational offer for the children of Wombwell. Our staff have passion for the school and children and only want the best for our community; we are very committed.
