Behaviour at
Wombwell Park Street Primary School

'Wombwell Park Street Primary School is a school where pupils are safe and feel safe. This is because behaviour is good and bullying is rare. When issues arise, they are dealt with effectively... There are very few serious behaviour incidents and bullying is also rare, both of which demonstrate that pupils are safe in school.'

The school makes sure that all pupils behave well. Some pupils find it more difficult to manage their feelings and behaviour than others. Adults apply consistent approaches to help these pupils to get back on track. Breaktimes are harmonious. Pupils know that adults expect them to respect each other. Pupils live this out through their caring interactions with each other.

Behaviour
Behaviour at Park Street is led by our SENDCo and Behaviour lead, Mr A Fidment.  He is the school's Assistant Headteacher and is one of our Year 6 teachers also.  Mr Fidment is a Specialist Leader in Education and supports and advises other schools on their behaviour policies and procedures.  Mr Fidment is also trained to DSL standard and runs Early Help Assessments to support families with SEND and behavioural needs.

Golden Rules at Wombwell Park Street:
Behaviour at Wombwell Park Street Primary School is good.  We value our positive relationships between staff, children and parents.  Staff have very high expectations of the children and the staff themselves model good behaviour towards each other (good relationships, speaking to each other appropriately and having fun with each other)!

Our Behaviour Policy centres on the following three rules, which encompass all types of behaviours:
  • Ready
  • Reliable
  • Resilient.
We strongly believe that if our pupils can live by these rules, they will succeed in life. Our three School Rules provide the ethos and culture Of Wombwell Park Street Primary School. 

Each week, we celebrate some of the many fantastic pupils that we have in our 'Golden Book' assembly. Golden Book assemblies on a Friday promote the amazing children who have shone out that week, for showing excellent skills in these areas.  Please find weekly updates below of our incredible Golden Book children!

​Each classroom has an 'Incredible Us' target board, where there is a regularly changed class target and a celebration board of those children who have met the class teacher's expectations.  Each classroom has a consistent 'Regulation Station' also, designed to support individuals who need to regulate.  There are consistent 'Regulation Stations' on the corridors also, for staff to support children outside of the classroom, if needed.  Each child, as part of transition, makes a hand identifying staff in school that they can seek out to talk to, if needed and these are staff that make them feel safe.  These are displayed on each door, for all staff to use and be aware of.  Certain Teaching Assistants are Behaviour Mentors, which helps support individuals through school in times of crisis or as a 'change of face', for example.  Regular assemblies discuss the school's high expectations and promote positive relationships.

Consequences are given in school and are monitored.  Consequences may be: missed playtimes / lunch times; a phone call home; speaking to another member of staff eg SLT; suspension, for example.

'Zero Tolerance' regarding Bullying:
Wombwell Park Street Primary has a zero tolerance regarding bullying and members of our Senior Leadership Team always investigate any allegations thoroughly and rigorously.  We aim to create a friendly and fun loving atmosphere, where children feel comfortable.  Our children feel confident to speak to members of staff, including our PSA, Mrs C Hitchens.  We have a number of strategies to support children in the event of any potential allegations of bullying: Mrs Fitchett in school runs 'Art Therapy' sessions each Wednesday to support children, Mrs Hitchens (PSA) has extensive training in safeguarding and could support children and we also run an 'Incredible Me' programme which supports children's mental health and wellbeing and underpins the school's Behaviour Policy,

How do we celebrate good behaviour in our school?
We celebrate the children's positive attitudes and behaviour in school in a variety of ways!  For example:
Golden Book each Friday in assembly; positive noticing of pupils; Incredible Me! stickers; Incredible Me! time each friday; phone calls home; consistent recognition using recognition boards; general certificates for good work and effort.

We are committed to developing 'Young Leaders' within school, to promote and develop positive behaviour further.  This will complement our other behaviour strategies within school and 'Jobs' which children already do (eg Playground Leaders, Reading Leaders, Eco-Reps, Digital leaders etc).

We are a happy school and we all work together as a TEAM; we thoroughly believe that 'Together, Everyone, Achieves. More'!  We have a school full of 'Always' children!  These amazing adults and children are celebrated on our entrance display - feel free to add to it with child / adult celebration cards!
