Dropping off and picking up my child...

COVID-19:
PLEASE FIND THE NORMAL TIMES AND ROUTINES FOR THE START AND END OF THE SCHOOL DAY BELOW.

HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THAT AT THIS TIME WE HAVE SOME SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT START / END TIMES:

Nursery - 8.15-11.15am morning session; 12.30-3.30pm afternoon session (to allow for longer periods of cleaning and to help support social distancing on school site)
Reception - Y6 - flexible drop off between 8.30-8.50am and pick up between 3.05-3.25pm (to allow for social distancing)
NB if you are a key worker, please aim for 8.30am and 3.25pm.  If you have no commitments, please aim more towards 8.50am and 3.05pm.  If your child is in Y4, 5 or 6 then they will be dismissed at the normal time of 3.15pm, unless you tell us otherwise or are there yourselves to pick up at the earlier times.
Nursery:
If your child is in morning Nursery at Park Street, then the session times are 8.30-11.30am (with flexible collection possible from 11.15-11.30am).
If your child in in afternoon Nursery at Park Street, then the session times are 12.30-3.30pm (with flexible collection possible from 3.15-3.30pm).

The flexible pick up times were implemented a few years back at the request of parents, to help support those who were picking up children in different years or at different provisions.

When dropping children off (at 8.30am or 12.30pm), parents are invited in to come in to Nursery with their children, settle them and support their children in beginning to access the learning for that day.   Staff will open the gate at 8.30am/12.30pm and be around for parents to talk to.  Parents of children who attend in the morning cannot park on school site at drop off times, but parents of children in afternoon Nursery may park on the turning circle, as a last resort, at 12.30pm.

When collecting children (at 11.15-30am or 3.15-30pm), parents are again invited to come to the main door and collect their children in the cloak room, collect their belongings, work or letters and if needed, check in with staff.  At least one member of staff will be on the door and the others in class with the children.  Staff will open the gate from 3.15pm.  Parents of children who attend in the morning will be able to park on the turning circle as a last resort at 11.15-30am, but parents of children in afternoon Nursery will not be permitted to do so.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2:
School requires parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 to accompany their children on to the playground, until the children go in to class when doors open at 8.35am.  If parents are unable to do this, then we suggest another family member, carer or child minder is on hand to do this every morning.  It is also the case that we require parents/carers of such children to pick their children up too at the end of the day, when school finishes at 3.15pm.  Children should NOT be left unaccompanied on school site prior to 8.35am.

At 8.35am, you may want to settle the children in to class, but if your child is happy then please accept learning starts at 8.40am and staff are always keen to 'get going' with the children's learning! Some classrooms may let you know if it is possible to enter the classroom and complete morning work, for example, with the children.  This is the case in some cases, but it is not policy (more at the discretion of the class teachers).

If you intend on your child's older siblings dropping off / collecting them from Reception and key stage 1 classroom doors at 8.35am and 3.15pm, then you will need to fill in a disclaimer, available from the main school Office, to sign to say you are happy for your young child to be looked after by another child under 16 years of age.  Please do expect staff to be vigilant and speak to you / your child about this matter, for safeguarding reasons.

If you or anyone picking your child up is going to be late picking up as a 'one off', then please just simply call school and let a member of the Office staff team know.  They will then speak to the child's class teacher and keep the children until you or other carers get to school - please keep communication up in this area!

Year 3:

As children transition in to key stage 2, we understand that they want more independence and of course you want to encourage this, as do we.  However, as a school we feel that it is important to keep the key stage 1 routines of drop off and pick up in place until Christmas.  This allows the children one full term to get to know life in key stage 2 and supports the children in this - both from school and home.  It also allows the Year 3 teacher to focus on 'road safety' and 'stranger danger' in the first term, to support the children in this transition.  By Christmas in Year 3, we then feel that, if you should want this, the children can come to school and wait on the playground without an adult and can also walk home / to the bottom of the drive, to meet their parent or carer.  We ask for parental support in this as we have found it to have worked very effectively for the past years.  By Christmas, simply let your child's class teacher know your child's new arrangements.  Of course if you want to continue dropping off and picking up under adult supervision, then there is no problem!

Years 4, 5 and 6 (and Year 3 from Christmas time):
Children in these year groups often walk, cycle on their bike or ride their scooter to school - school actively encourages children to start their day with some form of physical activity to get their brains active!  The children need to be on site by 8.30am, for doors to open at 8.35am and registration at 8.40am.  They will then finish school at 3.15pm and again often walk or ride their bike / scooter home, without adult supervision (or meet parents/carers at the bottom of the school drive).  At this time, we expect children to still adhere to the school's 'Golden Rules' and act in a responsible, reliable and respectful manner.  If they do not, this is taken very seriously and parents will be notified and asked to collect their children from the classroom doors, for example.

Parental behaviour:
Please note that it is incredibly important for parents and carers to model excellent behaviours, manners and road safety for the children to follow.  School will not allow parents to speak rudely or aggressively to each other or other parents' children, or be violent in any way; Governors will be notified and it may be decided that verbal warnings should be given or adults/older children will be banned off the school premises.  We ask that if someone's behaviour (child or adult) bothers or concerns you, that you come in to school and speak calmly with a member of the Leadership Team, so actions can be taken to prevent this in the future.

NB:
Please also note that smoking on site is NOT permitted (either cigarette or e-cigarette).
Dogs are also NOT allowed on site, for the health and safety of the school community.
