Are you thinking about applying to Wombwell Park Street Primary School?

First of all, welcome to Wombwell Park Street's website and thank you very much for considering sending your child to us!

We hope you have managed to find all of the information you need, but if not, do not hesitate to contact us on 01226 752029!  We will always be happy to help!

First of all, please have a good look through our website, to get a feel of what our school is all about - teaching, learning, safety and fun!  If you haven't visited us in school, then please feel free! Simply call school or e-mail us, whichever is easiest and we will accommodate you and your special children to look around our school.  We believe that this is really important as you will get a feel as to how our school runs and whether or not you think our school is right for your children!

When making any decision or when you come to visit, please make sure you have read our recent Ofsted report (June 2018) and have looked at our school vision and aims, to see if it fits in with your own views on school life.

We have a 'Morning Activity Club' run by TAs from 8am until 8.35am.  This is a paid provision where parents drop their children off for a range of PE, reading, art and writing activities.  It is organised by TAs and our Sports Team.  This is based in our school hall (enter through the main Office entrance) and then afterwards, at 8.30am, children are taken straight to classes for registration by staff.

At 3.15pm, our 'Kidz Club' begins.  Staff collect children from classes at the end of the school day and take them down to the Community Room.  Here they do activities until you are able to collect (via the main school Office entrance).  Again, this is a paid provision, but one which is very popular and which the children LOVE!  Parents can't get them away at the end of the day!  Mrs S Stevens organises this and asks that any parent wanting to book their child in does so with at least 48 hours notice (for staffing and catering reasons).  Children staying past 4.45pm get a light tea!

If you would like your child to attend Park Street Nursery (part time education) and you are a resident in Barnsley, you will get a letter through the post from Admissions, asking you to make your choice and return it to themselves.  Admissions then prepare a list of children who we admit to Nursery on an age basis.  As soon as we are notified that your child has a place in our Nursery, then Miss C McGinnes (Nursery Teacher and EYFS Leader) will contact you and invite you to a new starters' meeting. At this meeting you will gain all the information you need, have chance to look at the setting and meet key staff and ask as many questions as you want and need!  You will also be given the chance to come in to Nursery for a visit session with your child.

If you would like your child to attend Park Street from Reception onwards (full time education), then you will need to apply via Admissions / online via Barnsley LA's procedures.  Once again, after you have applied, Admissions prepare a list of children who we admit to full time school (Reception - Year 6).  Miss McGinnes will write out to you and invite you to a news starters' meeting and give you all the information you need.  You will have chance to ask as many questions as you want, look at our Reception classrooms and meet staff.  Your child will also have the opportunity to visit school and begin to build relationships with staff and children prior to the summer holidays before they start, as part of a transition package!  This normally entails spending a morning in class with their new friends and teachers, followed by lunch with parents and then another full day in school, when they try lunch time independently!  As part of this process, Miss McGinnes and Reception teachers will aim to visit your child's current setting to discuss any specific needs or requirements and find out a little more academic information, ready for when we look at class makeup for their September start.

We understand that the prospect of sending your most precious possession to school for the first time is rather daunting; many of our staff members have been in your shoes!  However, we do ask parents to work with us to the benefit of their children and we always actively encourage parents to talk to us if they have any questions or problems, whatever they might be and we will aim to sort these out as quickly as possible.  If you have any health /medical / safeguarding / learning issues or concerns regarding your child which you want to discuss prior to them starting at Park Street, then please contact us and we will discuss these matters with you and put a plan in place.

We want to be the best school possible, so always welcome parental and child feedback, in respect of school life.
