Indoor shoe policy - REMOVED!
The school has adopted a standard form of dress. Pupils are encouraged to wear burgundy sweatshirts/jumpers/cardigans, white/burgundy polo shirts with the school logo on and grey trousers, skirts or pinafores. During the summer months, girls may choose to wear blue dogtooth checked dresses as an alternative.
Children require a white t-shirt, black shorts, black jogging bottoms, black sweatshirt and black pumps/trainers for PE. PE kits are not required for our Nursery pupils.
All clothing should be clearly marked with your child’s name!
The wearing of earrings by pupils in school continues to present serious problems of safety and security especially during PE lessons and during periods of recreation. This can be a hazard at school particularly when young children are playing together. As a general rule we prefer children not to wear jewellery. However, if children have pierced ears they may wear small studs only. In line with Local Authority guidance, all children must be able to remove their own jewellery for PE otherwise exclusion from the lesson will be necessary. May we advise parents who intend to have their child’s ears pierced, to do so during the summer holiday to allow 4 – 6 weeks healing time.
Other forms of body piercing are not allowed at all. If it becomes apparent that any child is wearing any other form of body piercing jewellery they will be asked to remove it immediately. Failure to do so will result in exclusion from the school.
I hope that you will understand the risk for this strict ruling especially when you consider many horrific and painful injuries do occur in PE lessons as a result of wearing earrings.
Children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 used to have to change their shoes in to indoor pumps prior to September 2020, when entering school. However, this has now been removed from policy and indoor pumps are no longer required.
