Assessments

'Another area of focus for the inspection was the assessment systems in place... You have adjusted the system this year.... Assessment is now accurate and identifies where pupils are doing well and when they need further support. This helps teachers to understand pupils’ needs more closely and, therefore, pupils’ progress over time.'
(Ofsted June 2018)
In line with the statutory assessments that are taken, children at Wombwell Park Street Primary School will complete the following assessments:
  • Key Stage 2 (Y6 SATs, including Teacher Assessment for Writing)
  • Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
  • Key Stage 1 (Teacher Assessment results)
  • Year 1 Phonics (Check taken in June Y1 - statutory)
  • Reception (FS2 children attaining a 'Good Level of Development' - GLD)

However, in the current academic year, not all of these tests will be completed, following Government Guidelines sent out to schools in December 2020.  This is due to COVID-19.  The plan for the academic year 2020-21 will be as follows...
If your child is in Y1 they will take the ‘Phonics Screening Check’ (PSC):
Your child will take a statutory, national test in Phonics this year and will be tested, in school, by members of staff who they know well.  This will take around 10 minutes per child and will be done in the most pleasant, fun way possible by our experienced staff team!  This is not school’s choice to do this test, it is a National expectation and must be done by all schools in the UK.  These tests will be carried out in the week beginning Monday 7th June 2021 (into the week after).  Regular attendance is always good, but please ensure your child is in school for this week and the week after and I ask that you do not book holidays during this time.

If your child is in Y2 and needs to re-sit the ‘Phonics Screening Check’ (PSC):
If you have been notified that your child needs to repeat the Phonics Screening, they too will be taking the test again in this week beginning Monday 7th June 2021 (into the week after).  This will be done in exactly the same way as the Y1 test so again good attendance in this week is needed and do not book holidays during this time.

If your child is in Y2 they would normally take their Key Stage 1 tests, however, this year it is slightly different:
Your child's KS1 tests have been suspended for 2021.  However, as a school within the ECM Trust, we will be administering a past paper to help inform the teachers' teacher assessment judgements.  Whilst children work independently in these tests, they will still be completed near staff who they know well and feel at ease with, should they need emotional support.  These past paper tests will be administered in the month of May 2021.  Please, once again, ensure your child has good attendance in this month and please work with us and do not book holidays during this time.

If your child is in Y6 they will take some of their Key Stage 2 tests:
Your child will take a series of statutory, national tests in core curriculum areas.  Whilst children work independently in these tests, they will be completed near staff who they know well and feel at ease with, should they need emotional support.  These tests will be administered during the week beginning Monday 10th May 2021.   The timetable for 2021 will be as follows:
Monday 10th May 2021 - Reading paper
Tuesday 11th May 2021 - Maths Paper 1 and 2
Wednesday 12th May 2021 - Maths paper 3
Please note that in 2021, no KS2 children will be taking a statutory SPaG paper.
Please, once again, ensure your child has good attendance in this period of time and please work with us and do not book holidays during this time.

If your child is in Y4 they may take their optional 'Multiplication Tables Check' (MTC):
Your child would normally be required to take their  'Multiplication Tables Check’ (MTC), a new initiative introduced by the Government.  However, this has been suspended for 2021.  Schools have the option to administer it, should they wish to.  Confirmation of this will be sent out to parents in due course.  If it goes ahead, it will take place during a three week window from Monday 7th June 2021.   The dates for these assessment are set by the Government and therefore have to be rigidly adhered to.  We ask that if your child is in Year 4 then you MUST ensure 100% attendance during these three weeks of testing times.

We know so many of you follow our school policy of no holidays in term time, which we appreciate.  We also know some parents have few other options than to book in term time.  However, please can we stress how important these tests are to the children, staff and school.  The children in these year groups are already focused on their task in hand this year and really want to succeed!  Staff work so hard to make sure our children make great progress too, it would be a shame if attendance let the children down.  Please be mindful that the children are on a journey throughout the year and any interruption to teaching and learning time will set them back, especially if close to or just before the tests.  We hope this informs parents, because I know a few families have already been asking for dates!

Should you require any further dates, do not hesitate to look at the following address:

Many thanks for your support!
