Who are our school's Governors?

'Governors make a positive contribution to school life. They understand the school well and are ambitious for its future. They are pleased with the improvements made in the school since it academised in 2015 and recognise that leaders are doing a good job. Nevertheless, they also challenge and question leaders robustly, to ensure that decisions about the school are in the best interests of the pupils.'

(Ofsted June 2018)

Our Governing Body went through a reconstitution in May 2015.
Please see www.ecmtrust.org/localbodies.html for more information about our governors.

The following members of the Governing Body at Park Street attend termly meetings as full Governors and also as part of out termly Finance Committee and Personnel and Curriculum Committee.  They have the following responsibilities.  Mrs Oliver meets Mrs Lawson regularly to discuss Safeguarding and School Improvement and Mrs Fenton is often in school, helping out on trips and supporting Miss Grayhurst with our outstanding behaviour!  Mrs Chavan is always a happy and helpful face around school, organising our school's 'Healthy Tuck Shop' or helping the 'Wombwell Park Street's Parent and Carer Group'.  Mrs Riley enjoys visiting our EYFS and learning about the needs of the children through school and Mr Vincent helps our Computing Leaders support parents as best we can.

Thank you Governors for all the parts you play in making our school a great place to work and attend!

Chair of Governors (Authority Governor)
  • Mrs E Oliver (P&C Committee member, Safeguarding Governor, Performing Arts Governor, Pupil Premium Governor)
"I'm currently Chair of Governors and have been part of Park Street Governing Body for about 20 years, when my children were at school here. I have been part of the many changes that have occurred, moving from the old school and seeing the progress of the current school together with changes in staff and head teachers. I have previously worked in banking and currently work in adult education, so have a good understanding of finance and the benefits of learning and education. I believe in providing children with the best start in education and strongly believe that Park Street is an excellent school to do this and feel privileged to be part of the governing body and support such a lovely school."

Vice Chair of Governors (Co-opted Governor)
  • Mrs A Holdsworth (P&C Committee member, Geography Governor, History Governor)
"I have been a Governor at Park Street for about 18 years and both of my children attended this lovely school.  When my children were young, I was a childminder and carried out training for local childminders, so have a good understanding of child development.  I now manage the Adult Skills & Community Learning service, which involves many of the same requirements in school such as preparing for OFSTED, the quality of teaching and learning and staffing issues.  I can bring all these skills to our governing body to ensure all our children receive the best education possible."

Co-opted Governors
  • Mrs C Fenton (P&C Committee member, Behaviour and Safety Governor, PSHCE Governor)
"I became one of Park Street’s Governors after working at the school for 34 years as a member of staff!  I have lots of experience with children: I have worked in class supporting teachers and learners (some with SEN needs), in the main school office and as cookery teacher.  Being a school Governor has kept me involved with the school I love.  I feel I can bring lots of skills and information to my role, to assist the Governing Body with school improvement.  I help lead on behaviour and meet each half term with Miss Grayhurst (Behaviour Leader) to analyse data, review behaviour and suggest ways forward, which is proving to be very successful.  I love attending anything special that the school is doing from Y6 chocolate day, supporting staff and children in Year 5 on residential in Whitby to handing out awards at the Y6 end of year ‘Awards Ceremony’!"

Parent Governors
  • Mr R Vincent (Finance Committee member, Computing Governor, Upper School Governor)
"I have been a parent Governor for about six years, a role I thoroughly enjoy.  My wife is a teacher and we have four children.  All of them have attended Park Street School – so I have been a parent at the school for over 10 years!  Being a Governor gives me the opportunity to give something back and be at the heart of the school.  I am a plasterer by trade and have my own business where I specialise in refurbishments, so I understand the importance of budgets and finance and have been part of the finance committee as part of my role."

  • Mrs S Chavan (P&C Committee member, Literacy Governor, Languages Governor, RE Governor)
"I am a parent of twins who have attended Park Street since being of nursery age.   They both settled in well and love coming to Wombwell Park Street Primary.  I have become a school governor as I wanted to get involved in the broader aspects of school life and ensure the school continues to offer the best education for all the children who attend. I am passionate, committed, love to get involved and see things through to the end.  I intend to apply my time, skills and experience to the benefit of the school.
In my free time I am an active volunteer within the community and the school.  I help with the school tuck shop and I am also a member of the Friends of Park Street School through which I work closely with other parents in the planning of events which raise funds for the school.  I am also involved with different community groups such as Friends of Wombwell Park, Loxley Community Garden and also the Wombwell Ward Alliance which I enjoy as this enables me to get involved with in the community, meeting different people and making a difference."

  • Mrs R Riley (Finance Committee member, Lower School Governor, SEN and Inclusion Governor)
"I became a Parent Governor at Park Street in November 2017 so I’m very new to the role. I attended Park Street as a child. It was and still is an excellent school. It gave me such a great start in life that I’m looking forward to giving something back to the school through this new role.  I have worked in the Civil Service for over 16 years the past few years as a senior manager. I have gained qualifications and skills in business, finance/taxes, management/leadership and performance management. I have also trained as a continuous improvement advocate and strongly believe there’s always room for improvement!"

Staff Governor
  • Mrs S Vaughton (SENDCo)
"I am Lead SENDCo at Park Street and also work in the same role at High View PLC. I am new to the Governing Body this year, a role which I am very excited about. Having been part of the senior leadership team in school for a number of years, I am keen to engage with this new opportunity to lead school at a very strategic level.  I support Mrs Lawson in Governor’s Meetings by helping her provide key information to Governors but also provide relevant challenge too to help improve the school and maintain high standards.  If staff have any concerns, I work with Mrs Lawson and our Governing Body to find solutions."

Headteacher
  • Mrs C Lawson
"I am the very proud Headteacher of Wombwell Park Street Primary School.
We are a very happy school, with hard working staff, committed Governors and amazing children.  We work hard as a team to continually try to improve our school, for the benefit of the children within our care.
I have worked at Park Street for seven years now, firstly as Deputy Headteacher, then as Head of School and latterly as Headteacher.  I have seen the school go through many changes in the past seven years, but one thing that has always been at the core of the school is the fantastic relationships our staff team have with the children in the school.  Everyone is happy, feels safe and enjoys their time here!
I have worked in three schools before I came to Park Street.  One was in Rotherham and two were in the Barnsley area.  I began my career in 2004 as a Year 5 teacher, quickly moving on to a Year 6 teacher, where I have spent the vast majority of my class teaching career.  I have led on a range of areas through school from history, music, maths, KS2/ SATs, creative curriculum, teaching and learning and more latterly safeguarding and school improvement.  I love every bit of my job and am very proud of the school and how far it has come – but there is always room for improvement!
I enjoy working with our Governing Body and I feel we all have the children’s best interests at heart and want the very best for them.  As our motto goes: TEAM - Together, Everyone, Achieves More!"
