Who are our school's Governors?

'Governors make a positive contribution to school life. They understand the school well and are ambitious for its future. They are pleased with the improvements made in the school since it academised in 2015 and recognise that leaders are doing a good job. Nevertheless, they also challenge and question leaders robustly, to ensure that decisions about the school are in the best interests of the pupils.'

(Ofsted June 2018)

Our Governing Body went through a reconstitution in May 2015.
Please see www.ecmtrust.org/localbodies.html for more information about our governors.

The following members of the Governing Body at Park Street attend termly meetings as full Governors and also as part of out termly Finance Committee and Personnel and Curriculum Committee.  We have 10 Governors in total, as per our Instrument of Governance (at the bottom of this page):
1 x Headteacher
1 x member of staff
1 x Local Authority Governor
3 x Co-opted Governors
3 x parent Governors
1 x Co-opted Governor Vacancy

They have the following responsibilities:
Finance: Mrs Milner, Mrs Riley, Miss McGinnes, Miss Tunnicliffe and Mrs Lawson (HT)
P&C: Mrs Oliver, Mrs Rose, Miss Shotton, Mrs Chavan and Mrs Lawson (HT)

Mrs Oliver meets Mrs Lawson regularly to discuss Safeguarding (including LAC), wellbeing, staffing and school improvement.   Mrs Chavan is always a happy and helpful face around school, supporting the school with fund raising matters and linking up with curriculum leads.  Mrs Riley enjoys visiting our EYFS and learning about the needs of the children through school, as well as reviewing other subject improvements eg maths and SEND.  Mrs Milner is often at school, working alongside our Parental Group and organising exciting events for the children.  Our Governors are fully involved in monitoring subject leaders and holding them to account in termly meetings.  We are really lucky to welcome Rachel Tunnicliffe to our Governors team this Autumn term (new Parent Governor).

Our subject leaders each have a Link Governor who challenges and supports the school.  These are organised in the school's Leadership Structure, which can be found below:

Thank you Governors for all the parts you play in making our school a great place to work and attend!

Chair of Governors (Local Authority Governor)
  • Mrs Elaine Oliver
"I'm currently Chair of Governors and have been part of Park Street Governing Body for about 20 years, when my children were at school here. I have been part of the many changes that have occurred, moving from the old school and seeing the progress of the current school together with changes in staff and head teachers. I have previously worked in banking and currently work in adult education, so have a good understanding of finance and the benefits of learning and education. I believe in providing children with the best start in education and strongly believe that Park Street is an excellent school to do this and feel privileged to be part of the governing body and support such a lovely school."

Co-opted Governors
  • Mrs Sabeena Chavan
"I am a parent of twins who have attended Park Street since being of nursery age.   They both settled in well and love coming to Wombwell Park Street Primary.  I have become a school governor as I wanted to get involved in the broader aspects of school life and ensure the school continues to offer the best education for all the children who attend. I am passionate, committed, love to get involved and see things through to the end.  I intend to apply my time, skills and experience to the benefit of the school.
In my free time I am an active volunteer within the community and the school.  I help with the school tuck shop and I am also a member of the Friends of Park Street School through which I work closely with other parents in the planning of events which raise funds for the school.  I am also involved with different community groups such as Friends of Wombwell Park, Loxley Community Garden and also the Wombwell Ward Alliance which I enjoy as this enables me to get involved with in the community, meeting different people and making a difference."

  • Mrs Rebecca Riley
"I became a Parent Governor at Park Street in November 2017 so I’m very new to the role. I attended Park Street as a child. It was and still is an excellent school. It gave me such a great start in life that I’m looking forward to giving something back to the school through this new role.  I have worked in the Civil Service for over 16 years the past few years as a senior manager. I have gained qualifications and skills in business, finance/taxes, management/leadership and performance management. I have also trained as a continuous improvement advocate and strongly believe there’s always room for improvement!"

  • Mrs Judy Milner
I have worked in childcare for 21 years as a childminder and Park Street school has been a big part of my working life for the last 18 years. I am parent/carer for my two grandchildren who both now attend Park Street themselves.  Both love attending and enjoy their time here.  Having to be Ofsted registered myself, I have a strong understanding of what is required from the school . I have a good understanding of safeguarding and have done all the relevant training and I am passionate about keeping children safe and happy.  I also work with children and families with additional and complex needs and give them all the support I can .

For a number of years now I have been a volunteer within the school, helping at the tuck shop to provide healthy snacks at break time for the children. As a member of the 'Friends of Wombwell Park Street School' parent group, we work together to raise funds for the school to help to provide a happy and healthy environment for each and every child.

I am looking forward to the role of parent governor and feel like I have a lot to offer a good and thriving school.

Parent Governors
  • Miss Rachael Shotton
I’m thrilled to be recently appointed as  a parent governor as it means I can give something back to Park Street and play more of an active role within school life. I’ve always been passionate about education and I currently work at a school in Sheffield so I feel I have a great insight into the education system and what it has to offer. I’m optimistic that I can bring some of my 15 year teaching experience and knowledge to my new role as governor.

I have two wonderfully energetic boys who certainly know how to keep me on my toes. When our weekends aren’t full with sport, we all love to spend time as a family exploring new places and experiencing new adventures.

I cannot wait to work alongside the team at Park Street

  • Mrs Emma Rose
My two girls currently attend Park Street and they really enjoy school and are thriving in its positive atmosphere.

When my husband and I moved to Wombwell 8 years ago, we visited a number of schools. Park street stood out to us as a vibrant and happy environment with a great ethos, where both children and staff are valued as individuals.

I come from a creative background, with a focus on special effects in the entertainments industry. I have run a successful bakery from my home for several years.

I have a keen interest in making connections in the community and have a range of experience in volunteering. I’ve enjoyed supporting the work of food banks, a women’s refuge, running parent and toddler groups, Sunday schools and church community groups for adults.

I believe I can bring a creative mind with a keen eye for detail to the governing board. I look forward to providing a listening ear and being a critical friend to the school during my term as a governor.

  • Ms Rachel Tunnicliffe
My daughters are pupils here at Park Street and they have been very happy here. The school has done so much to support them and I would like to repay all their hard work and kindness by being a Governor.

Professionally I am an Independent Financial Adviser and have 18 years experience in the sector. I love my job as it’s all about helping people and making the most of the assets they have to plan for the future, to achieve their dreams. I hope to apply this to my new role for the school.

Staff Governor
  • Miss Clare McGinnes (Assistant Headteacher)
"I have recently joined the Governing body as the staff representative, having worked at Park Street for eight years. I am the EYFS and KS1 leader and I also lead reading through school- areas I am very passionate about. I also love teaching the nursery children and supporting them to settle into our wonderful school and get the best possible start to their learning journey. I am really looking forward to working together with the Governing Body to ensure the school continues to develop and grow and provides the best possible learning experience for our children."

Headteacher
  • Mrs Chloe Lawson
"I am the very proud Headteacher of Wombwell Park Street Primary School.
We are a very happy school, with hard working staff, committed Governors and amazing children.  We work hard as a team to continually try to improve our school, for the benefit of the children within our care.
I have worked at Park Street since 2011, firstly as Deputy Headteacher, then as Head of School and latterly as Headteacher.  I have seen the school go through many changes in the past twelve years, but one thing that has always been at the core of the school is the fantastic relationships our staff team have with the children in the school.  Everyone is happy, feels safe and enjoys their time here!
I have worked in three schools before I came to Park Street.  One was in Rotherham and two were in the Barnsley area.  I began my career in 2004 as a Year 5 teacher, quickly moving on to a Year 6 teacher, where I have spent the vast majority of my class teaching career.  I have led on a range of areas through school from history, music, maths, KS2/ SATs, creative curriculum, teaching and learning and more latterly safeguarding and school improvement.  I love every bit of my job and am very proud of the school and how far it has come – but there is always room for improvement!
I enjoy working with our Governing Body and I feel we all have the children’s best interests at heart and want the very best for them and the community.
As our motto goes: TEAM - Together, Everyone, Achieves More!"
