At Wombwell Park Street Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE and sports to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities has many benefits and a positive influence on the children; their health, behaviour, concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children. Our priority is to ensure high expectations are set in PE and sport so that all children progress throughout school well, including disadvantaged groups and those with special needs.
What is the Sports Premium?
The funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money a school receives can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of the funding
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Utilisation of the Funding by the school
For the academic year 2024-25, the total amount of PE and Sports Premium received in school was £18690. This money has contributed to activities and initiatives which have proved very successful. - Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
- New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
- Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or material for PE/sport
- Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and residential visits

Wombwell Park Street's Sports Coach
Over previous years, our school has been very fortunate to have used the Sports Premium funding. Our Sports Coach, Mr R Smith, is working alongside teachers to support the delivery of PE to all classes from Reception - Y6 and also ensures the children of Park Street are involved in competitions. Mr Smith and the staff team aim for every child from Year 1 upwards to take part in at least one competitive sporting competition each year. Many of our KS2 children attend far more than this! He provides feedback on the support he has given in school and the competitions and successes he has had with the children, on a termly basis to the Governing Body, as part of the Headteacher's Report to the Governing Body. This provides the Governing Body with information on how the Sports Premium is being used and the impact it is having on the children. Mr Smith also team teaches and provides model lessons for teachers, as part of their Sports CPD. He is also class based several mornings and provides a range of support across all year groups.
Children and parents are very positive about sports at Park Street and regularly support the children in competitions themselves. The community understands our passion and the positive impact it can have on children. This support of the school has been very evident since Mr Smith began in November 2019.
