Subject aims:
The aims of the subject are to help the children at Park Street to develop Personal characteristics including:- confidence, honesty, fairness, tolerance, empathy, perseverance, resilience and self -discipline. To develop the skills to form and maintain relationships. To communicate constructively in a variety of different settings, To identify and manage risk. To have Moral, spiritual, cultural and social experiences and opportunities to help them understand other values and to challenge their own, making informed choices. We aim to help the children develop the skills, knowledge and strategies they need in order to live healthy, safe, fulfilling, responsible and balanced lives.

How is the subject taught?
During the Foundation Stage, PSED and citizenship will be taught and modelled by staff as an integral part of everyday play experiences. Activities will be planned that allow the children to reach their own potential and help them to achieve the Early Learning Goals for Personal, Social and Emotional development by the end of the Foundation Stage.
 
Pupils in Key Stage One and Two will follow the non-statutory guidelines for PSHE as set out in PSHE association 2014 scheme. PSHE will either be taught as a discrete subject and through circle time, SEAL, or through other curricular subjects.  PSHE is also taught through the ethos of the school, the behaviour systems that are in place, golden rules and assemblies.


How is the subject assessed?
Assessments should help the children recognise the progress they are making in developing skills and taking part, as well as their knowledge and understanding. Assessment will take the form of observation of children and their work and through discussion between staff and pupils.  Each class teacher will track their pupils using the KS1 or KS2 levelled assessment sheet and
Reports on progress and achievement in PSHE will be given to parents annually.

CURRENT SUBJECT INFORMATION RELATING TO COVID-19 AND REOPENING OF SCHOOLS (SEPTEMBER 2020) FOLLOWING PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURES.

Since returning to school in September following partial school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been working hard to identify the areas of learning individual pupils may need to catch up on. As always, we are making core subjects the priority - particularly the basic skills of numeracy and literacy. However here at Wombwell Park Street, we are passionate about our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum offer and feel now more than ever pupils need the opportunity to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities. Children will be accessing the full range of curriculum subjects this year. In order to promote wellbeing the number of Thrive and PSHE sessions will be increased in the autumn term.  If you wish to discuss our current curriculum provision further do not hesitate to contact school and Mrs Longden Deputy Head can provide further information.
