We have been using the interactive whiteboard to help us with our learning in Maths this week. We have learnt to carefully count the buttons on the gingerbread man and then tap the matching numeral. We also had a go at dragging buttons onto the gingerbread man to match the number. This was quite tricky as the buttons kept popping back as we dragged them, but we persevered and managed to succeed! There was so much Maths in this activity as well and we had to take turns as we learnt that the interactive whiteboard doesn't work if more than one person is touching it at the same time. Good work, Shooting Stars!

We love to be creative in nursery and there has been lots of wonderful learning this week! Creative Workshop: In our creative workshop we have been designing our own gingerbread people linked to our story of the week. We have been choosing our materials and sticking them down in different ways. We have also worked hard using scissors to snip and cut out our gingerbread man. Some children managed to cut right around the edge all by themselves! Playdough area We have gingerbread scented dough in our playdough area this week and there has been lots of talk about the scent. The children have been using our gingerbread man recipe book to create their own. They have learnt to shape the dough and then roll it flat with their rolling pin before cutting out different sized gingerbread people. We have added buttons this week and the children have been carefully pressing them into the dough and counting how many they had got. Such a lot of fun and learning! Mark Making area In the mark making area, we have been using our pens, pencils and crayons to decorate our own gingerbread people. We have been practising holding our pencils in the tripod grip and have chosen our own marks to add features. We are also working really hard on trying to write our names on our creations and we have been using our name cards to help us to practise and copy the letters. Painting area
In our painting area. we have been using cotton buds to make different marks to decorate our gingerbread men. We have also used them to paint our own creations, These are great for developing our fine motor skills as we make small controlled marks with them. In our Maths area this week, we have been working together to complete different jigsaws. We have some number and counting jigsaws and some other puzzles too. There has been lots of talk and problem solving as they have worked together.
Our journey into magical storyland is continuing this week, with a focus on the story of The Gingerbread Man." We loved reading the story together and the children were great at joining in with the repeated refrain "run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man."
In our small world area, we have lots of different books of the story as well as puppets so the children can tell the story with their friends. We have some brilliant story tellers in our nursery! This morning we had a go at some yoga linked to our story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This was great for developing our physical as well as our literacy skills. There were lots of different poses for us to have a go at including stretching and balancing using different parts of our body. We also joined in with the voices of the different bears from the story, saying the repeated refrains. Here are some photos of us in action:
As we have been reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears this week, today we had porridge for our snack, just like the bears in the story. Most children were keen to have a taste- some loved it and asked for some more but others were not so keen! After snack time, we all had the chance to write our name on a chart to show if we liked the porridge or not. We practised holding our pens carefully in the tripod grip and used our name cards to help us to write the letters. Great job, Shooting Stars!
We have begun our journey into "Magical Storyland" today by sharing the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have read a few different versions of the story and the children have been trying hard to join in with the repeated refrains such as "Who's been sitting in my chair?" or "This one is just right." We have also been practising changing our voices to match to the different characters in the story.
In our provision, the children have loved playing together with different puppets and props to tell the story with their friends. We have porridge oats and different sized bowls and spoons to explore and in the dough we have different sized bear cutters as well as different bowls and spoons. It has been lovely to see the children return so happily from the Christmas holidays and rekindle the friendships from last term. Look at us playing and learning together: Happy New Year to all our children and their families. We hope you have all had a lovely festive time together and are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday for the start of our Spring term learning journey.
Our new theme for learning is "Magical Storyland" and we will be learning about lots of different traditional tales over the coming weeks. Our first story is "Goldilocks and the Three Bears." |
