Today, the children in Team DB have had a wonderful afternoon visiting the Wombwell Library. For some children it was their first visit, and for others they had been many times before. The children were well-mannered and polite and an absolute delight to take into the village. Upon arrival, the children were introduced to the children's section of the library and were asked to complete a little task at finding the various sections for example, non-fiction, board books and even the graphic section. The librarians read the children a fiction story, before they were invited to have a wander around the library themselves. The children were captured enjoying reading different stories, whether together with their friends, sharing the tales, or relaxing on a cushion or the sofa, embroiled in an adventure. Thank you to Wombwell Library for inviting us today. Literacy
In our shared reading, we have started to read aloud the text, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. Many of the children are already aware of the Harry Potter texts and films, and they have been looking forward to reading this in class as well using the text as a hook into their writing, seeing as though J K Rowling is our class's acclaimed author! During this half term, Team DB's writing focus will be narrative poetry and writing a new introductory chapter to the book. Maths This week in Team DB, we have been continuing our learning about multiplication. The children are developing their skills when multiplying the multiplier and multiplicand to calculate the product. We have been using manipulatives to help us with our learning as well as using different representations. The children are working very hard to learn of their multiplication facts to 12 x 12. Spanish - Los Planetas Our topic theme for this half term is 'Our Solar System'. Our classroom display is looking intergalactically amazing, and we have already started to learn the names of the nine planets in our solar system, (Pluto was renamed as a dwarf planet), in our Spanish sessions. Please help at home by practising together 😊 El Sol La Luna Mercurio Venus La Tierra Marte Jupiter Maths
In Maths this week, the children have been developing further their understanding of multiplication and division. We have looked further into the vocabulary used in multiplication and division equations and the children are now using this language when speaking about their learning. In addition, we have been learning how our knowledge of addition and subtraction and the partitioning of numbers, can also help is when calculating multiplication and division problems. The children have been using manipulatives to help them including arrays. Literacy During our Literacy learning, the children have been looking at the features of a non-chronological report. The purpose for their learning is to write their own non-chronological report for a figure from our class text, 'Herstory'. Everyone in lcass has chosen their own female influential figure to write their own fact-file about them. The children have thoroughly enjoyed our class text, and have enjoyed learning about the many different historical, influential figures. The children have been developing their skills in writing in third person, as well as unpicking the features of an example of a non-chronological report. |
Welcome to Team DBIn Team DB, we always love to share our amazing learning journey with others; where we post our work and photos for all to see. Take a look each week, to find out all about the wonderful learning we have been doing. Archives
