Year 6 English and Maths Update

18/11/2023

English: Instruction writing. Year 6 would love another school pet. Mrs Lawson has informed us the only way she would consider another pet was if we could suggest ideas for a pet and write a really excellent set of instructions. The instructions need to be easily understood for pupils and staff to ensure the new pet will be really well looked after. Absolutely no surprise that Year 6 stepped up to the challenge. Firstly, we applied our research skills to collect all the information we needed about our chosen pet. We identified key features of instruction writing. We revised our knowledge of imperative verbs, brackets for parenthesis, adverbials, conjunctions and prepositions. We learnt about how to use concise language and bullet points. Eventually, we wrote some excellent instructions. All that is left now is to proof read our work and present our instructions to Mrs Lawson.
Maths - Since returning from the half term break we have been consolidating our knowledge of place value of numbers with up to 9 digits. We have been developing further our written methods for multiplication and division and applying our skills to a wide range of reasoning challenges and problem solving

Team LL enjoyed their library visit. We had chance to explore the library and enjoy the books. Library staff talked to the pupils about the history of the library, different services and gave the children a bit of information about the role of the librarian. Fab time had by all.

Autumn Term PSHE

1/11/2023

We have covered a range of topics in our PSHE lessons so far this year.
- I can show I am trustworthy
We spent a couple of lessons exploring what it means to be trustworthy. We explored some scenarios and then created our own moral scenarios to discuss in class.
- I can select my friends based on shared interests
For this objective we worked through getting to know ourselves and our peers activities, including games and activities. We explored our interests and looked at what we have in common.
-I can appreciate the values and points of view of others
-I can stand up for what I believe in, in a non-threatening way.

For these objectives we engaged in a range of class oracy tasks and debates. We completed a diamond 9 activity where we had to suggest which of our school's key character virtues we thought were the most important. As part of our RE work, whilst learning about Buddhism we had to suggest which 5 rules we felt would make the world a better place.
-I have aspirations for the future
We have had the opportunity to meet people who do a range of jobs for a living. We have had the opportunity to ask questions. This has given us the chance to consider what we might like to do for a living. We have met Isobel Gorst a meteorology student studying for her PHD, members of our local community policing team, our very own Mrs Fitchett who is a professional illustrator and we have had the opportunity to speak to Mrs Lawson about what it is like to be a headteacher.
I can keep myself safe in a range of situations
Members of our local policing team came into speak to us about staying safe, potential risks in our local environment and what to do if we find ourselves in worrying or unsafe situations.
