At group time this afternoon, the children developed their listening skills while playing their musical instruments and singing lots of nursery rhymes. Singing nursery rhymes is brilliant for developing an understanding of rhythm and rhyme and it also builds memory, supports speech development and listening skills too- "Rhymes make a reader!" There is research which shows the more nursery rhymes children can sing all the way through by the time they are four years old, the better reader they will be by seven years old!
The children took turns to choose a nursery rhyme spoon from our song box and then we all enjoyed singing and playing our musical instruments together.
