This week we have begun creating our very own Easter bags in the hope that the Easter bunny will pay us a visit!
We used sponge dabbers and different coloured paint to print patterns onto our card. Our focused words in this activity were: print, press, push and dab. We also used our mark making skills to decorate our handle using different patterns.

Today we invited one adult per child into nursery to join in our learning and have a go at some different Easter crafts. Some of our activities included:
-decorating Easter eggs with pastel coloured paints and cotton buds -using collage materials to create our own fancy Easter eggs -mark making and adding stickers to eggs in the writing area -exploring chocolate dough and Easter themed cutters. The children also loved showing their special adults their favourite areas within our continuous provision. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us- I know the children loved it! This week our Amazing Animals theme has moved onto learning about animals which live on a farm. Our book of the week is Farmer Duck and we are learning to join in with the repeated phrases. We have also learnt lots of Makaton signs for the different farm animals.
In our group time, we have learnt the names of the baby farm animals and we have been matching up the adults and babies. We have focused on horse and foal. pig and piglet, cow and calf, sheep and lamb, goat and kid, hen and chick and duck and duckling. Here are some photos of us engaging in our continuous provision so far this week: This morning on our welly walk, we focused on the signs of Spring. We noticed that things were changing in the nature reserve and spotted lots of new growth! We noticed daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops, blossom on the trees and also new leaves starting to grow. We will keep looking over the coming weeks to see if we can spot any more changes.
The children in afternoon nursery kept fit this afternoon with a spot of ribbon dancing. They made lots of large scale movements with their ribbons and then danced to the music.
The morning children enjoyed an active dance session with the Tumble Tots this morning. There was lots of opportunities to move in different ways and develop our gross motor skills as well as keep fit.
At group time this afternoon, the children developed their listening skills while playing their musical instruments and singing lots of nursery rhymes. Singing nursery rhymes is brilliant for developing an understanding of rhythm and rhyme and it also builds memory, supports speech development and listening skills too- "Rhymes make a reader!" There is research which shows the more nursery rhymes children can sing all the way through by the time they are four years old, the better reader they will be by seven years old!
The children took turns to choose a nursery rhyme spoon from our song box and then we all enjoyed singing and playing our musical instruments together. In our Maths learning this week we are learning to name and talk about 2D shapes so we have a new resource out in our classroom- tap-a-shape. The children have loved using the hammers and pins to tap the shapes into the board and make pictures. As well as all the talk about shapes, this is great for our fine motor skills as the pins are only tiny and we have to hammer them through the tiny holes in the shapes. This was a very popular activity and one I am sure we will have out again in a few weeks time! Look how hard we are concentrating in these photos!
To link in with our Maths learning about shapes, we have explored printing in our painting area. We used our small wooden blocks and discovered that when we dipped them into the paint and then pressed them onto our paper, we could make 2D shapes. There was lots of talk about shapes and we also used the words, print, press and dab as we worked.
We are really making lots of progress in our cutting and sticking area at the moment. Lots of children are now using the scissors to cut their own materials to add to their creations and we are learning to use sellotape as well as glue to stick materials together.
This week, some children have even decided to choose their own materials to create houses like in the three pigs story- what superstars we have in our nursery! |
