Today we begun our learning about the nativity- the traditional story of Christmas and we have been learning lots of songs ready to perform to our parents in a few weeks time! We have read different versions of the story and learnt lots of new words including: stable, innkeeper, Bethlehem, shepherds and manger. The story supported our early understanding of History as we spoke about it being a long time ago and there were no cars so they had to walk and travel by donkey. We also spoke about how different the clothes were. In our provision, the children have loved dressing up as the characters, looking after baby Jesus (they were very gentle!) and delivering presents to the baby. We have also enjoyed our small world nativity scene and the children have loved playing together and telling the story with their friends. In our mark making area, we have been developing our pen grip and control while creating pictures linked to the story. There was lots of talk about the characters while they were busy working on their pictures.
