Today all the children and staff came to school wearing red and we had an exciting day of learning all about Chinese New Year. We learnt about the story of the animals and how the order of the years was decided and then found out which year we were all born in. We explored Chinese writing and had a go at writing some numbers using black paint and also with brushes in glitter. We enjoyed watching a clip of a dragon dance at a new year parade and then got creative with ribbons to perform our own dragon dance. The children really developed their fine motor skills as they used folding and cutting techniques to make their own Chinese dragon. They also designed and made a Chinese lantern. One of the most exciting parts of the day was tasting some different Chinese food including prawn crackers, rice, noodles and dipping sauce.
