Literacy
In our writing, the children have been discovering more about the text for this half term, and we have been using this as a hook into our writing. The children have been looking in detail at the text The Viewer, by Gary Crew, and it has had the pupils in Team DB mesmerised. The children have been interested in finding out more information about Viewers and how they were once a keen children's toy. They have also become fascinated at the various pictures depicted on the reels, and how some are not as pleasant as originally thought! The aim of their creativity in writing, is to write their own story setting of how they find a viewer, including the design of their very own reel, picking our historical events during their own lifetime. The pupils have been using their expanded noun phrase knowledge, developing their ability to choose awesome adjectives to enhance their own writing. Moreover, the children were learning about similes and metaphors as well as the importance of the five senses when describing a setting for a story. Maths: In Team DB, the children have been developing their addition and subtraction skills when using four-digit numbers. They have been using exchanges between the place value columns, as well using their fabulous addition and subtraction skills to find missing numbers in a calculation. They have been working very hard this week!
