Our learning this week has focused on minibeasts and where they live. We started the week listening to the story “Superworm” by Julia Donaldson. This week our Funky Finger activity was to wind the thread around the worm templates to make our very own "Superworm"! Our other activities have included; writing about our favourite minibeasts, creating junk modelled minibeasts, painting finger print paintings and spotting doubles on ladybirds! We have had some fantastic independent writing this week and we are super proud! We have learnt to name a variety of different minibeasts and we know that insects have 6 legs and antennae. We have also learnt about some of the different micro-habitats that each minibeast lives in. On Welly Walk we had a wonderful time exploring our nature reserve hunting for different minibeast – we found; woodlice, bees, a wasp, a ladybird, worms, a spider and a beetle to name a few! In Literacy, our Year 1 children have continued with their unit of work on questions. This week that have worked had to come up with questions about different stimuli in preparation for writing questions about their chosen aspirational jobs next week. In Maths, our Reception children have spent the week exploring a new manipulative that they will be using in their learning going forward. The children learnt that it is called a "rekenrek" and we have spent lots of time learning how to use this equipment correctly learnt using ‘one finger, one push’ to move the beads. Our Year 1 children have been practising recalling pairs of numbers to 10, adding one to any number, subtracting one from any number and we have learnt to explain what the difference is between consecutive numbers. In Science, we have learnt about the three basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival – air, water and food and we can say why each need is important.
In PSHE, we explored feelings and began to show an understanding of not only our own feelings but of those around us.
