This week, SG continued learning about rocks and began exploring soils. We kicked things off by heading outdoors to discover all the different types of soil around us. Many of us found various bugs, rocks, and a bunch of worms in the soil! We looked into why worms are so important and how they help the soil. After that, we got into testing how quickly water moves through different soils. We compared sandy soil, clay soil, and loam. Even though the results showed that clay had the best drainage, we all agreed that loam is the top choice for growing crops. It has good drainage, keeps the soil moist, and is packed with nutrients. Our results show that sand was the least permeable.
