Today we had some very special visitors. SG had the opportunity to see two different birds of prey close up: a peregrine falcon and an owl. They were shocked to find out that peregrine falcons can dive at around 200mph! SG had lots of questions and really enjoyed the outdoor flying display too!

Throughout our Netball unit this term, SG has been refining their passing abilities. Initially, we focused on mastering the chest pass, ensuring that each pass formed a distinct 'W' shape with our hands. Following this, we dedicated time to perfecting the bounce pass technique. Once confident in both methods, children challenged each other to see how many passes they could complete within a one-minute timeframe.
This week in Team SG we have been learning all about lent. We have challenged ourselves to carry out an act of kindness every day for 40 days. SG have also challenged Miss Groves to give up coffee and sweets for 40 days too!We kicked off this week with some PSHE! As it's Mental Health Week, our PSHE lesson focused on boosting positive emotions when we're feeling down. We discussed activities we enjoy doing for ourselves and others during tough times, and made our own cups of positivity to spread reminders of positivity to ourselves and others!
Today we had Pyjama day and visited the library. We went on a book scavenger hunt, explored various books, had a class reading session, and some of us borrowed books using our library cards! We did lots of reading and we were super cosy. This week, SG continued learning about rocks and began exploring soils. We kicked things off by heading outdoors to discover all the different types of soil around us. Many of us found various bugs, rocks, and a bunch of worms in the soil! We looked into why worms are so important and how they help the soil. After that, we got into testing how quickly water moves through different soils. We compared sandy soil, clay soil, and loam. Even though the results showed that clay had the best drainage, we all agreed that loam is the top choice for growing crops. It has good drainage, keeps the soil moist, and is packed with nutrients. Our results show that sand was the least permeable. Today, we discussed things that help us stay healthy. We talked about keeping ourselves clean and why it's so important for our well-being. We also discussed how staying clean can make us feel more confident and better overall. Y3 remembered lots of things about brushing their teeth and hands from last year, it was very impressive!
Once Y3 were confident sorting the different rocks they had found, we carried out tests to determine the hardness of the rocks. We found that the softer rocks (chalk) were, the more likely they were to make a mark. |
