This half term Team LF have started learning about Islam. Team LF have learnt that people who follow the Islamic religion are called Muslims and that the faith was founded in Saudi Arabia. We know that Muslims believe in one God, who is called Allah and that he has ninety-nine names. During our lessons, we have also learnt that the Islamic faith follows the 'Five pillars of Islam' and these are the main beliefs of the religion. ,
We had the privilege of a workshop, led by Imran, a follower of the Islamic faith. Imran focussed on the importance of prayer, the times in which Muslims pray and how they pray within a mosque. He brought artefacts for the children to look at and also taught the children the key features of a Mosque building.

Team SG have been reading various stories from the Torah in RE. Today we looked at the Creation story and why it is important in both Christianity and Judaism. We discussed why the story is significant in both religions and produced our own class story board using freezeframes!
Team JD, DB and LF have been extremely lucky to have Imran visit uthis week. Our year four and five children have enjoyed meeting our special visitor Imran, mashallah!
They have so many amazing facts about the religion Islam, Those who follow the Islamic faith are called Muslims, and there are around 1.9 billion Muslims in the world today. This makes Islam one of the world's largest religions, the second-largest religion after Christianity. Muslims only believe in one God, Allah, The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam. It contains 114 chapters, which are called surahs, Muslims pray 5 times a day, at dawn (Fajr), midday (Dhuhur), late afternoon (Asr), after sunset (Maghrib) and between sunset and midnight (Isha) and much much more! The children were engaged and loved learning about all aspects of the religion. They children then got chance to look at the pray mats, what they had to wear to pray. They even got chance to demonstrate it to the whole class. . Team AF and LL continue to learn about Buddhism and what it means to be a Buddhist. Also they have also spent time comparing Buddhism to Christianity - identifying similarities and differences. This week in R.E. the children have been developing their understanding about the Five Pillars of Islam:
Shahadah - the Muslim statement of their faith; Salah - Muslims pray five times each day; Zakat - giving to those in need; Sawm - fasting during Ramadan; Hajj - the pilgrimage to the Holy City The whole class got out of their seats to explore the Five Pillars around the classroom, matching the statements to each of the Five Pillars. This week Team SG have thoroughly enjoyed their learning about Christianity and Judaism. The children have been learning about special books and why the Torah is sacred to the Jewish faith. Team SG have been learning about how to treat this special book with respect and have also been comparing elements of Judaism with Christianity.
This week Team CH have enjoyed a hands on experinece. We talked about ways we might show we believe or enjoy something or someone. We discovered that many Jews feel that by wearing a kippah they are proudly announcing to the world that they are Jewish. This is classed as an 'outward sign' of their faith. We asked the children if they would like to wear a kippah as part of our learning.
RE We are really excited to begin learning about a brand new religion which he have not learnt about before - Buddhism. Children have carried out a little research and explored the life and teaching of the Buddha. We are looking forward to finding out even more.
Today Team CH explored a special story to Christians and Jews. Our story is based on the Bible story of Noah and the ark. In this first session the children were introduced
to Noah. He lives happily with his family, but all around him people are behaving badly. God speaks to Noah and tells him to build an ark. Noah builds the ark and gets it ready for the flood. In this session the children learn a happy dance, then a contrasting angry, stamping dance. They work with a partner, doing different building actions, as they get the ark ready. Finally, our children had the opportunity to continue there learning within our provision and were provided with plenty of talk time to discuss the learning further with their peers or an adult. |
