In Science, we are learning about 'Seasonal Changes'. This afternoon we learnt all about Autumn. We discussed what the weather was like (getting colder) and discovered that the days get shorter. We spoke about what happens to the leaves on the trees and what animals do in Autumn - hibernate and migrate. We learnt that Autumn is in the months of September, October and November.
We then went on Welly Walk to our Nature Area where we worked in pairs to spot Autumnal changes. Our enquiry question this half-term was based on pattern seeking. Our big question was "Do the tallest trees lose their leaves first in Autumn?". The children in their pairs observed what size trees the leaves had fallen from and we came to the conclusion that there is a pattern to the size of the tree and the tree losing its leaves first in Autumn. We found that on the tallest trees the branches underneath at the top were bare or had brown leaves on and those trees and branches closest to the ground still had green leaves.
