We looked at interpreting data, we started looking at tally's then we moved on to block diagrams we then finished the week with pictograms. Team JF were fantastic at this and everyday completed some challenges. Literacy We loved Esio Trot so much that we thought we could write our own adventure story from Alfie's perspective. We looked back at our plans and started to write an opening, build-up, dilemma, resolution and a closing. The children worked so hard on these, they are fantastic! Science We looked at exploring waterproof materials, to do this we completed an experiment as part of this half terms enquiry focus, a fair test. The children were really confident in measuring out the same amount of liquid, to make it as fair as possible on each material.

This week Team JF have been busy exploring animal groups. Our focus was on reptiles and birds! We first explored characteristics of each group before moving into comparisons of the two. The children really enjoyed this and were very interested in finding out more! Computing This week Team JF started a new unit of learning, digital music. To begin with, we listened to a range of music and discussed what we could hear. From this, we had lots of discussion about our likes and dislikes of each piece. From this, we started to think about the type of music we would like to compose. PE This week Team JF started a new unit of learning. To begin with, we practiced a variety of poses to take weight on our hands. These included; front support position, back support position and holding these poses. From this, we worked with a partner to complete partner sit ups and up and over together. Art This week we started our new topic of 'Life at the Seaside'. The children completed some amazing pieces of artwork in line with this theme. They chose a seaside image to sketch themselves. Each piece was amazing and we even have some on our new display already! Welcome back, how is it the last term already! Team JF have had an amazing start to this week and have been busy with all sorts of new learning!
Maths This week, Team JF have started a new unit, time. To begin with, we spoke about what time meant and gave lots of examples. From this, we started to explore the 12 hour clock. The children have worked incredibly hard practicing o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to! Literacy This week, we have started reading a new, exciting book- Esio Trot! The children are really enjoying the humour within this story and are desperate to find out what happens to Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver! As we discussed this book, we found the riddles within entertaining and decided we would have a go at writing our very own! From this, we started to build our skills and knowledge by finding features of riddles and exploring rhyming couplets. On Friday Team JF really enjoyed our trip to the library. Their behaviour was brilliant. Maths
This week, the children have worked hard to consolidate and apply their knowledge of the four operations. We started off by recapping our knowledge of addition and subtraction using the column method. From this, we moved into applying our skills when solving worded problems! As the week progressed, we moved into the same process but using multiplication and division. Literacy This week, Team JF started a new unit of learning! We started by reading the non fiction book 'The Big Book of the Blue'. This is a fantastic book providing lots of interesting facts about sea creatures. From this, we decided we loved exploring life under the sea and we would like to teach some of the younger children of CH too! We then started to look at features of non fiction texts and begin our skill building in preparation for our writing! Science We kicked off a new half term by focusing on our enquiry focus, observation over time. We worked in small groups to plant some cress seeds and place them in different positions and conditions around the classroom. We decided to test cress with water and sunlight, with sunlight but no water, with no light and water and finally, with no light or water. We will check in again next week to observe the changes we see! As part of our history learning, Team JF had the exciting opportunity of experiencing a 'Great Fire of London' workshop. The day started in the hall as we interactively explored the timeline of events. From this, we split onto groups to complete a carousel of activities. These included games, quizzes and even had the chance to re-enact life during this time! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day, made some great memories and enhanced their knowledge of this time! The gentleman was also VERY complimentary of their behaviour too! Well done Team JF! Welcome back! This week Team JF have worked their socks off and produced some fantastic learning!
Maths Team JF have started a new unit of learning, multiplication. To begin with, we explored equal and unequal groups. The children worked really hard to identify what they are and how they could prove a group was equal or not. From this, we explored arrays, doubles and odd an even numbers. We spoke of how this knowledge and these skills would help us as we move into counting in our 2's, 5's and 10's. Literacy This week, Team JF have also started a new unit of learning based around our new book 'The Lost Happy Endings'. We have listened to the book numerous times and had the opportunity to discuss the themes, characters, and even take on the role of Jubb as part of a 'hot seating' task! Computing This week, the children started their new unit of learning. To begin with, we spoke about the app Scratch and the sprite. From this, we watched the tutorial of how to use the app and worked together as a whole on the main computer to navigate the app. We spoke of the different commands and how we could program the sprite to move and follow our commands. After lots of modelling, the children were given the freedom to explore the app for themselves. Maths
This week, Team JF worked really hard on subtraction! We initially recapped the subtraction symbol and thought of as many different words as we could for it. From this, we began to think about how to solve trickier calculations quickly. We used our knowledge of partitioning to help us do this. The children used Base 10 to make their numbers and place them in the correct columns on the place value chart. After that, we started taking away from our whole number. Finally, we were able to identify what we had left. Literacy This week, Team JF have worked really hard to produce some fantastic, vivid setting descriptions. We based our writing on the book 'The Tin Forest' and used each of our senses to create our pieces. Next week we will present our writing to each other in the nature reserve with a festive hot chocolate! Christmas performance This week, we have worked incredibly hard rehearsing for our performance. The children have put in a tremendous amount of effort to learn songs, speaking parts, actions and stage directions! I cannot wait for you to see them perform as I know you will be just as proud of them as I am! MathsThe children of Team JF started exploring column addition. We started off by recapping what we already knew about numbers and their values. From this, we partitioned into tens and ones using the place value grids and added each column separately to reach our answer. As our learning progressed, we moved into setting out our calculations accurately using one number per square. The children had lots of opportunities to practice setting this out using their whiteboards. LiteracyToday in Team JF we discussed that Mr. Holmes has seen our Tin Birds and would like to know how to make them for his class. Therefore, we agreed that we will look at writing some instructions so that Team CH can make them later in the year. In order to do this, we first need to understand what instructions are and what their purpose is. We looked at a set of instructions together and identified some important features. We then split off into groups to look at another set of instructions as a team, and discuss the features that make them successful. At the end of the lesson we came back together and collated our ideas into a list, which included: short sentences, a title, easy to understand, includes pictures, includes an equipment list, and includes steps which are in order. We agreed that these are all features which we will need to include in our own instructions when we write them next week. PEThis week we started a new unit of gymnastics, the children tried really hard to balance, we looked the starting position of a jump and a bending their knees to land safely. They did amazing well done Team JF! REThis week we looked at special stories, we looked at a special story for Judaism, called The Crying Camel and why that book was special to that religion. We then spoke about what stories are important to us and why. DTThis week in DT week evaluated our fruit kebabs, we looked at what went well, what went wrong and how we fixed this and what we could do next time. We did have a problem as we couldn't find any strawberries because of the time of year so we had to swap that fruit with another to create our kebabs. Children in need/PSHEOn Friday the children enjoyed eating buns from the bun sale and taking part in activities at play time. Each class took part in finding spots outside, whoever did it in the quickest time won! We then spoke about why we are raising money for the charity and completed a mindfulness colouring activity of Pudsey. ComputingThis week in computing we looked digital photos. We spoke about the importance of asking of permission before taking photos of someone. We the had the opportunity to use some equipment to take photos such as, laptops and Ipads. We took lots of photos of ourselves and with our friends. MathsOver this week, Team JF have started to explore bridging 10. The children used their existing knowledge of bridging 10 using a number line to aid their understanding when using a place value grid. To begin with, we recapped our knowledge of tens and ones. From this, we made the numbers using Base 10, talking through each step. As we became confident with this, we started to talk through the importance of counting from our ones and found the total. We quickly realised we had too many ones and gave the whole tens to our neighbour. The children practised these steps, talking through each with their partner, to gain a secure understanding of what was happening to the numbers and why they were moving columns. LiteracyThis week we looked at how we made our tin birds and started writing instructions so that other teams could make them. We made sure our instructions included imperative verbs and adverbs. I'm sure the children can tell you how to make one at home. MusicToday the children started a new song in music, Sparkle in the Sun. We first listened to the song to discuss the mood, tempo, likes and the instruments we could hear. From this, we focused on the beat of the music. We explored what beat is and had great fun finding the beat in some warm up activities too! Finally, we made our own beat s for others to follow. ComputingWe looked at portrait and landscape and how to take images using these. We took images of objects around the classroom in different orientations. GeographyThis week in Geography we look at compasses, we used these to find North and other directions, we then took our knowledge and labelled our own compasses with with the eight direction on. PEThis week the children started exploring shapes. The children made a range of shapes on their mats including O , n , l, L, p, J, S. P. From this, they started to make the letters V, M, N, P, Y, D, E, Q with a partner. Here we focused on 3 second balances of each shape, pointed toes, strong core (sucking in belly button) body and hands position, points of contact when linking. |
