Year 6 had a lesson from a police officer from South Yorkshire Police who spoke to them about the dangers of engaging in social media apps and gave them lots of really good advice about how to stay safe on line. They have also been learning about IP addresses and how data is transferred via data packets.
Our focus for Computing this half term has been to learn what Information Technology is and how it is used. Over the last few weeks, the class have really enjoyed learning about what IT means and the different types of IT we have, where we use it and what its benefits are. The class especially loved role playing being a shop till, to help them understand just how fast IT works in comparison to ourselves.
Team AC have been learning about the range of technology which we have around us and used the ICT room to try logging on and off a computer. This was a great success, with all of Team AC showing great patience and teamwork while showing Miss Crossfield they could log on and off their computers.
This week in computing our learners have been developing their understanding of what information technology (IT) is. We identified devices that are computers and considered how IT can help us at school and beyond. We explained IT to our learners as a computer or something that is made to work with computers.
This morning, our KS2 pupils engaged in an online virtual assembly, an annual celebration hosted by Parent Zone and Google. The aim of the assembly was to focus on some online safety scenarios in which children had to vote for the safest and sensible option about how to behave. For example, what they would do if a friend was sent an inappropriate message from another person. The children had some great ideas about what to do in each case and could talk around the reasons for their responses. It was lovely to see the whole class engaged, sharing ideas and discussing what they had learnt from the assembly.
To watch the assembly, use the following link: https://youtube.com/live/6aNwQnCf9L0?feature=share During computing this week, Team JD learnt about the internet and how reliable information is. They did a team exercise where they shared true and false facts with each other in class. The children then shared the same information again with other children in class. The aim of the activity was to demonstrate that information can be shared quickly and we do not know where the true source of the information came from. The information can be true or false and is not always proven, demonstrating that sharing or reading information online is always accurate.
