To link in with our "Watch it Grow" theme, our new nursery rhyme for this half term is "Mary Mary Quite Contrary."
In our music time today we started to learn this new rhyme. Firstly we all chose a musical instrument and recalled their names: maracas, rain stick, bells, tambourine and castanets. In order to warm up our singing voices, we chose some familiar nursery rhymes to sing by selecting song spoons from our box. We sang them loud and quiet while playing our musical instruments to match. Then we used "My turn, your turn" to learn the words of our new rhyme. We sang it and played our instruments and then we sang and clapped the beat and then tapped the beat on our knees. We will continue to learn this song over the next few weeks and then see if we can perform it for each other!

During our group time this morning, we recapped the patterns on the butterfly wings from yesterday and I was very impressed that lots of the children remembered and could say the word symmetrical! We know this means the wings are the same on both sides.
For a focused activity, the children have learnt how to paint patterns, fold paper and then open out to reveal a symmetrical butterfly. Our focused words during this activity were: wings, pattern and symmetrical. We have begun our new theme for learning today by sharing the book of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. We read the book together and used it to talk about the life cycle of the butterfly. We have also sung a song together which helps us to remember the life cycle. After this, we looked at pictures of different butterflies and noticed that the wings were patterned and colourful. We also spotted that their patterns were the same on both wings. We learnt the word symmetrical and have added it to a wow word tree along with the word beautiful which came from our story. We will be trying to use these wow words as we are talking this week!
Our provision activities so far have been: -making and decorating butterflies in the play dough by adding sequins and matchsticks. -drawing patterns on butterflies wings and trying to make them symmetrical- we have done an AMAZING job of this! -decorating butterflies using collage materials -using tweezers to pick up different shaped pasta and sorting it to represent the butterfly life cycle. -working together to complete some tricky jigsaws about the butterfly life cycle. -exploring our minibeast garden small world area. -sharing lots of story and information books about minibeasts. We are looking forward to welcoming our Shooting Stars back tomorrow to begin our Summer term learning adventure, We also have some new children joining our morning nursery and are looking forward to getting to know them.
Our new exciting theme for learning is "Watch it Grow." We will be beginning this week by learning about the life cycle of the butterfly. Our book of the week is The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we will be reading it lots over the week so the children can learn to join in. We are also expecting an exciting delivery of caterpillars which we will be able to watch growing into beautiful butterflies. |
