Every day, when we come into nursery, we choose books together on the carpet. We have been practising holding our book the right way and turning the pages one at a time. Now we are learning to talk about what is happening on each page with our friends.

On our Welly Walk today, we collected leaves to make our own leaf crowns! The children had a challenge to find as many different coloured and sized leaves as they could and then stick them onto their card. Here we are wearing our leaf crowns: Morning nursery Afternoon nursery
Today we walked over to the school courts and enjoyed playing parachute games together. The games we played were great for developing our listening and turn taking skills as well as working together as a team!
Firstly we learnt to work together to move the parachute up and down at different speeds- fast and slow as well as high and low. We held the parachute high in the air and waved to our friends at the other side. Then we sang some rhymes and moved round in a circle with the parachute. We also enjoyed playing a changing places game where we had to listen for our names and run underneath and change places with someone else whose name was called. Finally, we put a ball on the parachute and worked together to keep it bouncing on top for as long as we could. It was great fun!! For our baking activity today, we made chocolate rice crispy buns. There was so much learning in the activity. Some children knew we needed to melt the chocolate and suggested using the microwave. We talked about the chocolate being hard and then how it was runny after being heated up. The children also developed their motor skills by carefully mixing the ingredients together and then spooning into their bun cases.
We have some budding Scientists in our nursery! In our music area, we have been listening to different music, singing along and moving to the music. We use our floaty scarves to dance as well as creating our own moves. We also love exploring our musical instruments with our friends.
In our group times, we have been learning to sing nursery rhymes and play our claves and different musical instruments. We have been developing our listening skills by playing and stopping in response to a signal. We have also been learning to play loud and quiet sounds. Wow! There has been lots of progress on our clamberstack already this year! Our children have gone from being unsure how to get onto it, to being able to climb up independently already. This is fantastic for developing our gross motor skills and there are so many opportunities to think and problem solve too. There is also lots of Maths langauge being heard as the children are talking about how high they are and who is the tallest.
Today we added the leaves we collected on our welly walk to our investigation tray. We added some magnifying glasses and a book about Autumn. The children enjoyed looking carefully at their leaves and talking about them using words including: green, brown, orange, yellow, crunchy, crispy, smooth, hard and soft.
Super investigating, Shooting Stars! Today we worked together with our friends in Reception class in our building area. We talked about what we were going to build and decided to make a police car. We used lots of different materials and also developed our gross motor skills by moving around the large resources. Once the car was finished, the children role-played being police officers. This was totally child initiated learning and the children were so engaged. We have also been building using our small construction inside which is great for developing our fine motor skills. We are learning to talk about what we are building and to attach the materials in different ways.
Today we went on Welly Walk to the nature reserve. We discovered that the floor was covered in leaves and we talked about where they had come from. The children collected different leaves and we talked about their shapes, colours and textures- every leaf was different!
The children learnt that in Autumn time, the leaves change and fall from the trees. Today for our food activity, we all decorated our own biscuit. The children learnt how to mix icing sugar and water to make icing and then to spread in onto their biscuit. We used words such as wet, sticky and runny to describe the icing and then we noticed that, by hometime, it had dried and gone hard. We have some budding Scientists!
This activity was also great for developing fine motor skills as the children carefully spread their own icing and then used the pincer grip to pick up and sprinkle some toppings onto their biscuit. |
