This week we have started a new unit of Maths linked to measurement and perimeter. The class began the week by measuring various different items and recognising how to use their ruler properly, as well as reasing to the nearest milimeter. From this the class worked hard to broaden their understanding of units of measurement and looked closely at conversion between mm and cm, cm and m and even m and km. The class saw this represented in many different ways and worked hard to use their reasoning and problem solving skills. For the latter half of the week, we have looked more closely at what "perimeter" is and how we calculate it. The class were great at providing a working definition and really clarifying their understanding of how to find it. Well done Team CB. Next week, we will be moving on to understanding the difference between area and perimeter and how we can find the area of a shape.
Meanwhile, in Literacy this week we have worked hard in the writing process to construct our newspaper reports about the Anglo Saxon invasion. The class have worked so hard to develop their language choice and a few of Miss Baxter's favourites were; 'scoping out the surroundings', 'imminent attack' and 'in the face of fear'. Next week we will develop the editing process to ensure that what we have produced is high quality before our publish and present aspect. In Science this week we have continued to refine our understanding of classification keys and how to construct them through the game of Guess Who. Next week we will use our knowledge to use a classificaiton key to determine different invertebrates which can be found in our nature reserve. I wonder what we might find? Did you know the Anglo Saxons to this very day influence England? The class have been busy exploring how place names signify the existence of the Anglo Saxons. In our topic learning, the class looked at suffixes which were commonly given by Anglo Saxons and explored which towns and cities could be rooted within Anglo Saxon history. From this, they they compared modern day Britain with Anglo Saxon Britain to determine which kingdom they were from. Check back next week for a further update on our learning journey!
