How time flies when you’re having fun! How are we already at the end of the second week of learning? This week the class have worked their socks off and shown just what fantastic learners they are.
Whilst still keeping up with our three week Times Table Race, we have jumped straight in to looking at Place Value as part of our Maths unit. The class have been busy exploring the different value of digits based on their position in a number and did so with resounding success. We have also explored how to compare and order numbers, as well as using our knowledge of Place Value to support in finding 1000 more or less than a given number. Our understanding of Maths is really evident so keep up the hard work Team CB! In Literacy, we have started our new topic of Traditional Tales. The class have been tasked with identifying different tales that have originated from Europe, as this is the continent we are currently exploring as part of our Geography unit. From this, we have looked at a range of different tales, comparing their plot structures and key features, in order to help us establish our own Success Criteria for writing. The class were fantastic at recognising similarities in stories as well as subtle differences. From this we focussed on key SPAG features which would support us in our writing. In particular, we looked at expanded noun phrases to give further detail, as well as speech to illustrate thoughts of characters. Next week, we will move on to planning our own class tale before we develop this into what will be our first independent write. Elsewhere in our learning, we have been busy working hard in our PE sessions to develop our skills with accuracy when throwing and catching. The class responded really well to instructions and showed progress in their confidence when throwing or receiving the ball. We have also attended our second ukulele session, which was lovely to listen to and clear that the children are going to perform to a phenomenally high standard by the end of the year. In Science, we have started our new topic of States of Matter, where the class have been busy looking at particle formations and their properties to understand the differences in Solids, Liquids and Gases. Head back to our blog next week, where you can see what new things we have been learning.
