As with any new term, comes a new topic. During the Summer term, our focus shifts from History to our new Science topic which is all about the Solar System. Throughout the term we will be focusing on developing our knowledge of many aspects of life beyond Earth, including what a spherical body is, the planets, the geocentric vs. heliocentric models, night and day, international time zones and the movement of the moon. By the end of this unit we should have developed a really clear idea of the Solar System and how our world works. As well as the Scientific learning, I will also be blogging tips for how you can incorporate other foundation subjects into your learning such as Art, Design Technology, Computing, Geography, History and such like. Good luck! The first job we need to do is to think about what evidence there is for the Earth, Sun and Moon being spherical bodies. Using the powerpoint to develop an understanding can you then sort the attached evidence cards into whether they suggest the Earth is flat or spherical. From this, complete the attached worksheet. If you're feeling extra creative why not create 2 models of the Earth. One to show it as flat (what some people thought) and one as spherical (what we know to be true). I'd love to see some photos via email or Twitter :)
