MathsThis week Team JF started to explore numbers as a length. We used bead strings to help us identify various numbers to 100. We applied our knowledge of counting in tens and ones to do this with speed. From this, we started to identify the length of our lines using the beads to help us and describe the length we had. We then had the challenge of working out the length of the line our partner drew using the beads and describing it using our key vocabulary. From this, we introduced a meter stick and started to investigate 100cm. We initially spotted patterns and quickly realised we could simply apply our knowledge of the number system to identify a length. From this we started to estimate numbers just as we did on a number line by finding the middle, knowing this was 50. As part of our learning, we explored the classroom to begin estimating the lengths on the tables! Some of us even set challenges for everyone else! LiteracyTeam JF continued learning about poetry. We started off by recapping what we had done, then started to explored shape poems. We each read a few and guessed, using the words and shape of the poem, what it was about. The children found this great fun! We then used an image of a sunflower to think of our own descriptions that we would include in our shared write. As we explored further, we decided it would be a great idea to write our own based on a crayon from our class authors book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ This week the children had the chance to write their very own shape poems. Artist of the termThis week Team JF have looked at the artist Hans Holbein. We decided that we would draw our very own portraits just like Hans Holbein. MusicThis week, Team JF continued exploring the song Hands, Feet, Heart. To begin with, we listened to the song to recap the instruments we could hear, the style of music and the tempo of the song. From this, we found the beat using the warm up games. After that we started exploring the glockenspiels with a partner. We first looked at how we use the beaters correctly, how the notes are positioned and practiced playing G,A,G,C to a beat. PEThis half term Team JF have been working incredibly hard to learn dance routines with a theme of fireworks. This week the children had the opportunity to put all of their hard work to use and perform their routines to the rest of the class. The children were amazing at this! Their timing, pace and moves had been carefully considered and they blew me away! ScienceThis week the children in Team JF made a prediction, to see if all materials move the same on different surfaces. We then did an experiment on multiple materials to see if our predictions were right. In conclusion that materials move quicker on a smooth materials.
