Team AC are really enjoying their computing this term. As well as having fun and finding out new skills, we have also talked about the importance of keeping safe online. On Tuesday it was 'Safer Internet Day' and Team AC thought about all the things it was safe to share online and what we shouldn't share online. We talked about the importance of passwords and keeping them to ourselves. The children had fun creating their own avatar. We talked about what they are for and why its a good idea to have them.
Last week for Chinese New Year the children in Team AC started to design a dragon! The design brief was that the main part of the body had to be able to move. They had to decide on materials, resources, equipment and what skills they would use to create their dragon. This week they developed their ideas into actual models. Next we will review our own and each others models to see what worked well and what we could improve. Here are a few of our finished products.
This week we have been...
Literacy/RE - learning about Judaism and about how Jews worship and celebrate their beliefs. We have learnt about the special things that are found inside a synagogue and what special artifacts Jewish people have at home. Maths - We have been busy dividing and finding remainders. We did some of our maths outside, dividing the members of our class into different groups. Spanish - numbers 1 - 10 (see Spanish blog) Science - learning about magnets and testing their strength by counting how many paper clips we could hang from them. We also found out that you could turn paper clips into mini magnets by holding them near a magnet! This week has been our Interfaith Week in school. Team AC have started to learn about Judaism and have compared it to Christianity looking at what is the same and different between the two faiths. We learnt what a synagogue was and found out what some of the things within the synagogue are called, what they are for and why they are special to Jewish people. Throughout school we had a 'wear it red' day on Tuesday to celebrate Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year. We looked some of the activities and celebrations that might take place and read the story of how the Chinese calendar became named after particular animals. The children had fun retelling the story with puppets and masks they made. They also tried some different foods and had a go at picking things up with chopsticks - not so easy! We found out that in Chinese culture dragons symbolise great power, good luck and strength so for our DT work we started to design a moving Chinese dragon. We thought about the materials, equipment and techniques we would use. Watch this space for our finished models coming soon! |
