​What a fantastic first term we have had in Reception! We have taken part in lots of Christmas activities this week. We had a Christmas role play area with elves outfits and Santa Sacks and have been making our own Christmas stories. We have used our creative skills to make Christmas decorations and have been practising using scissors to snip and cut. We designed Christmas jumpers using a variety of different media and have explored different textures. We have been counting and adding Christmas objects to find how many altogether and have written letters to Santa and Christmas lists! What a busy week!  We also enjoyed our first show in the hall. The support staff in school put on the show “Cinderella” with Miss Hanson being a fantastic mouse and Miss Hodgson being the King!
 
Our topic after the holidays is Magical Storyland and we will be immersing ourselves in fairy tales and traditional tales!
 

​Last week  The Rainbows were very busy with their Christmas Nativity and beginning all things Christmas.
We learnt about number 8 in Maths and  then sang Eight Mince pies in the Baker shop about our new number and we looked at how we could decorate a tree with 8 decorations or make a Octoblock using the multilink. Later in the week we recapped on shape and working out what shape was wrapped up.
 
We used the wooden nativity characters to tell the story in the reading area and in the creative area made decorations and nativity scenes. We modelled writing lists and cards. In the painting area we had a go at swirling paint to make a starry night scene in the style of Van Gogh. In the role play area we have been putting on the Christmas hats and making the area Christmassy.
 
In Phonics we have been using ‘Fred fingers’ to spell out cvc words as we as reading ‘green words’ and beginning to read some red tricky words.
 
Next week we will continue with all things Christmassy as well as finding out a little about Hanukah which is a Jewish festival happening at this time.
