The Rainbows have taken on a challenge over the past few days. We have been learning a brand new poem with actions, and this has been tricky! We have persevered and tried our best, watch our video and see what you think! We hope you are proud of our performance! Here is "Pitter Patter." Park Street's EYFS team have been gifted some seeds to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III. These are wildflower seeds and help to attract bees, which we have learnt are very important because they are in decline so we want to attract as many as we can to our nature area.
The Rainbows went to our nature area and planted the seeds in sunny places where we thought they would grow well. We watered the seeds and hopefully they will start to grow soon! We will check after the holidays during our Welly Walk sessions. Here we are planting our wildflower seeds. In preparation for our walk to Wombwell Library next half term, The Rainbows have been continuing to learn how to cross the road safely. This is something we know is incredibly important to keep us safe so we practise every week on the way to Welly Walk.
We have been continuing to look and listen carefully before we step into the road and as we cross to the other side. We know to cross silently so we can all hear cars and other vehicles and so we can concentrate on keeping safe. This week we chose two crossing patrol children to model crossing the road with an adult. They then stood and watched the other children carefully to make sure they were being safe. You can see them working hard in the photos below. We will continue this after the holidays with two different crossing patrol children who were being extremely safe this week. This weeks story from Sooper Books is Puss in Boots! We love stories with a happy ending!

We have used a tens frame and counters to help us and have been saying the stem sentence "___ needs ___ to make 10; 10 is made of ___ and ___." We used double sided counters and turned them over so they were two different colours to help us spot the number bonds.
Number 10 number block has been helping us learn which two numbers make 10 by making sausages in his pan. Unfortunately some of the sausages got burnt but that helped us to see how many were burnt and how many were not, and that these two numbers make 10. We will continue with this learning next week within maths lessons and within the provision activities. This week we have had so much fun exploring clay! The Rainbows said it was more difficult to make models out of than dough and that they needed to work a lot harder!
Some comments were "This is squishy!" "I can pinch it," "It is soft" "I need to press hard," "I can roll it like a sausage," "I need to press it down." Some of the Rainbows found it tricky to attach different sections of clay together so we practised smoothing the edges of the parts over the top of the other piece to make it stick. The Rainbows decided which minibeast they would like to make and carefully used pictures and photographs to help mould the parts of the body into the correct shape. Some of the Rainbows used tools to add detail to their minibeast. We will leave these minibeasts to dry and paint them next week when they have hardened. Here is our hard work in action! We have continued the topic of minibeasts this week and our book focus has been "The Bad Tempered Ladybird" and "Walters Web."
The Bad Tempered Ladybird mixed up some of our sentences in Literacy and we had to Fred Talk to read the read the words and unscramble them. We looked for clues in the sentence and knew that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop to help us. We succeeded in ordering the words correctly to read the sentence. We also wrote some speech bubbles for some minibeasts. We wrote a fact by Fred Talking what we thought the minibeast might tell us about itself. Some of us were really confident and told us how we could make our sentences longer by adding more detail. Some Rainbows are beginning to identify Set 2 sounds within words now! We created some minibeast habitats using soil, pebbles, grass and plastic minibeasts. We carried on with team work to complete these! We have been learning to draw minibeasts and include all parts of their body. We shut our eyes and put our hand in feely boxes and drew what we could feel. We focused on drawing in as much detail as we could and included legs, wings, thin and wide body parts. We also played a memory game taking turns with our friends. We had to turn over minibeast pictures and try and pair up the minibeasts until the game was finished. We also revisited learning about lifecycles. Nursery were lucky enough to have some caterpillars that turned into butterflies! Rainbows were amazed to see what had happened and could explain that a caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and then a butterfly emerges! They were confident to tell their friends that the butterflies will then lay eggs and the life cycle will start again. They enjoyed looking at the butterflies and were hoping that they would drink some of the sugar water and oranges while they were watching! We have learnt several new Makaton signs for different minibeasts including snail, slug, worm, caterpillar, spider and fly. We started to learn our new poem called "Pitter Patter." This has been a bit of challenge but we are trying so hard and learning to persevere. Hopefully we will been confident to perform it next week! Here are some of our activities this week including outdoor learning! Not too much has happened this week in the wormery except we have noticed a couple of trails of sand that the worms have moved as they squirmed through the soil.
We collected some leaves on welly walk and added them to the top of the wormery for the worms to feed on. We have also kept the soil moist as worms are very happy in damp conditions. We will see if we notice any more changes next week! This week the Rainbows really took on board what team work means and have worked hard on their feedback to achieve their goal of building their den.
There was more listening to our friends ideas and some children told their friends they would like to try their idea first! All groups found a sensible place for their den and stretched out their tarpaulin to check it fitted. Some groups progressed onto helping each other thread the string through the loops and trying to tie it to the trees, rather than each attempting to do that to their own corner. They found this works much faster and is much easier because they dont let go of the string or sheet. All groups succeeded to get their den up because they listened well, worked together and tried new ideas. Well done Rainbows! |
