Minibeasts!

We have continued the topic of minibeasts this week and our book focus has been "The Bad Tempered Ladybird" and "Walters Web."

The Bad Tempered Ladybird mixed up some of our sentences in Literacy and we had to Fred Talk to read the read the words and unscramble them. We looked for clues in the sentence and knew that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop to help us. We succeeded in ordering the words correctly to read the sentence. We also wrote some speech bubbles for some minibeasts. We wrote a fact by Fred Talking what we thought the minibeast might tell us about itself. Some of us were really confident and told us how we could make our sentences longer by adding more detail. Some Rainbows are beginning to identify Set 2 sounds within words now!

We created some minibeast habitats using soil, pebbles, grass and plastic minibeasts. We carried on with team work to complete these! We have been learning to draw minibeasts and include all parts of their body. We shut our eyes and put our hand in feely boxes and drew what we could feel. We focused on drawing in as much detail as we could and included legs, wings, thin and wide body parts. We also played a memory game taking turns with our friends. We had to turn over minibeast pictures and try and pair up the minibeasts until the game was finished.

We also revisited learning about lifecycles. Nursery were lucky enough to have some caterpillars that turned into butterflies! Rainbows were amazed to see what had happened and could explain that a caterpillar turns into a chrysalis and then a butterfly emerges! They were confident to tell their friends that the butterflies will then lay eggs and the life cycle will start again. They enjoyed looking at the butterflies and were hoping that they would drink some of the sugar water and oranges while they were watching!

We have learnt several new Makaton signs for different minibeasts including snail, slug, worm, caterpillar, spider and fly.

We started to learn our new poem called "Pitter Patter." This has been a bit of challenge but we are trying so hard and learning to persevere. Hopefully we will been confident to perform it next week!
