Network Rail has recently contacted all primary schools to ask teachers to pass on a message for parents and pupils about the danger of children playing on or near rail tracks. Please follow the link below for an important video lesson on rail safety.
Keep yourselves safe! Stay away from rail tracks! Primary school version: Age 7- 11 https://learnliveuk.com/network-rail-primary-school-safety-talk/ Yesterday, I blogged loads of interesting work you could try to support your learning in subjects beyond Maths and Literacy. Today I am back with more interesting learning you could work on. Check out my recommendations below: Religious Education: The religion we are focusing on this year is Sikhism. Why not have a go at reading the story of Sikhism below and then using the storyboard attached to retell the story in your own words?
Physical Education: Check out the files below for some 'PE From Home' activities. Each pack contains an explanation of how to use the pack as well as some top tips about keeping active. For those of you wanting to try something different to your suggested Jo Wicks workout this may make a nice change!
PHSE:
Perhaps you're looking for something else. Why not try BBC Bitesize's wellbeing session on teamwork. You can access it using the link below: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbcthbk An activity from Miss Taylor (Art Lead):
What is an art journal? An art journal, is a visual diary that combines elements of writing, drawing, painting and collage. There are really no rules in art journaling, which means it’s a great place to express your personality and feelings. Below, are some ideas that you could include in your art journal. You can create your art journal using a plain paper notebook, alternatively you can use plain paper and staple these together. Parents- If you would like to share any of your child’s artwork please share this through Twitter or via the school email. All websites/videos will need careful monitoring from parents due to some topic content and links to other sites, so please be mindful of this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHnq2MWPZjA www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNzVn0BF9Ow www.youtube.com/watch?v=vY49eNceLBo www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ix-V4YglAQ Did you know that today is 'World Earth Day'? 'This is the day and time of year to focus on ways every one of us can learn more about how amazing our world is and how important it is that we act to stop climate change and look after our planet.' Here are some websites for you to take a look at. They have some fun activities to try. https://www.hamilton-trust.org.uk/blog/world-earth-day/ https://www.twinkl.co.uk/event/earth-day-2020
In and amongst all that Maths and Literacy work you will be busy completing, why not look at some of the ways you can keep developing and refreshing your knowledge of other subject areas: Why not try 1 or 2 of these this week? Computing: Why not have a go at the following activity linked to "debugging" (identifying and correcting errors in scripts)? In this activity you will follow an algorithm to draw pictures constructed from 2D shapes. The algorithms they follow will include errors and you will use logical reasoning to detect and correct these.
Music: In need of some music around the house? Why not log on to Charanga and check out the new activities that have been uploaded on the space for you to complete? https://charanga.com/site/log-in/ French: As the sun shines outside, why not begin to think about the different seasons we have BUT learning to talk about it in French? Check out the work pack below to get started.
It may seem a long way off but we are making plans for our Year 5 residential trip in March 2021 (current Year 4 pupils). For the last few years we have been lucky enough to take our Year 5 pupils on a residential trip to Kingswood. It is an excellent and exciting learning opportunity. Please refer to the information attached below giving full details. If you could text school back with yes or no so we can see how many pupils are interested in attending.
I wanted to let you know about a Kickstarter campaign that has been launched. The campaign is the #SeeSportyBeSporty Girls and Sport Poster Campaign. At Park Street, we want to help spread the word to children and parents who might like to support it too. The link to the campaign is: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/totallyrunable/seesportybesporty-role-models-posters-of-girls To help, and hopefully spread the message I’ve attached an at-home task and competition. It would be great if we had some entries from our school. If you want to take part in the competition, email or tweet us a picture of your poster and we will send it to Totally Runable for you.
Sir Linkalot (which is a fantastic app to support spelling) is kindly giving all parents and schools free access during lockdown to enable children of all ages (4 years old upwards) to have Sir Linkalot Time at home. There will be a daily midweek 30 minute show online, starting this Thursday at 2 o'clock, on Sir Linkalot's Facebook page and Youtube channel, featuring Countdown's Susie Dent. There are two obvious benefits in using this whilst children are currently learning form home: one, it would most definitely raise their literacy levels and, two, it would make life a whole lot easier for you! It is not solely for spelling, however. It's covering the whole of the technical requirements of literacy, i.e vocabulary, homophones, punctuation, grammar, rules and patterns. So, it very much applies to older children as well.
To access the content, you can do this in one of two ways, either downloading via the App Store or on a laptop/PC. Please note, once you have downloaded the app from the App Store (small problem with Androids at the mo), tap on the log icon (for 'Log in') at the top right. You can also view it on a laptop or PC. Type in the browser itself (not a search engine)... app.sirlinkalot.org and follow the above instructions (the log icon is for 'log in'). Further information of log on details will be sent out electronically. Keep up your super spelling :) As with any new term, comes a new topic. During the Summer term, our focus shifts from History to our new Science topic which is all about the Solar System. Throughout the term we will be focusing on developing our knowledge of many aspects of life beyond Earth, including what a spherical body is, the planets, the geocentric vs. heliocentric models, night and day, international time zones and the movement of the moon. By the end of this unit we should have developed a really clear idea of the Solar System and how our world works. As well as the Scientific learning, I will also be blogging tips for how you can incorporate other foundation subjects into your learning such as Art, Design Technology, Computing, Geography, History and such like. Good luck! The first job we need to do is to think about what evidence there is for the Earth, Sun and Moon being spherical bodies. Using the powerpoint to develop an understanding can you then sort the attached evidence cards into whether they suggest the Earth is flat or spherical. From this, complete the attached worksheet. If you're feeling extra creative why not create 2 models of the Earth. One to show it as flat (what some people thought) and one as spherical (what we know to be true). I'd love to see some photos via email or Twitter :)
