We have been working hard this term to develop our colour mixing skills. We know that when we mix primary colours we can make secondary colours. We know that yellow and red make orange, we know that blue and yellow make green and we also know that red and blue make purple.
We have been developing further our cutting and sticking skills and have enjoyed working to build a range of models. We also applied lots of art knowledge and skills to create Easter cards, baskets and hats.

Exploring colour mixing, observational drawing of daffodils and drawing and painting trees and blossom.
We have had a busy term exploring the artistic styles and techniques developed by the Ancient Egyptians: specifically tomb art - not as morbid as it sounds the imagery, use of symbolism, hieroglyphics and range of sculpture and model making is really interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed learning more during our trip to the Tut 22 Exhibition at Experience Barnsley where we were lucky enough to see some original items of tomb art and crafts from the tomb of Tutankhamun.
We have developed our own sketches, collage and drawings and prints based on ancient Egyptian art. We were also lucky enough to visit the Cooper Gallery this term. We enjoyed learning more about Henry Moore and his art work. He wasn't just a sculptor you know! We also enjoyed illustrating our own mini books based on Macbeth during Shakespeare Week. We have been building on our 3d modeling skills by designing and creating Viking longboats. We have been using charcoal and pastels to develop rune art. Antoni Gaudi has been our artist to study this term and we have loved exploring his mosaic work, architecture, sculpture and use of pattern, colour and texture. Thank you Mrs Fitchett for sharing your enthusiasm and holiday snaps of your recent trip to Barcelona. Thanks also for the beautifully illustrated books you brought us back all about the talented man himself.
Linking to our work on South America we have been developing further our textile skills. We have been designing and creating carnival t-shirts. We have applied sewing, printing and tie-dying skills. We have explored the use of vibrant colours and techniques to embellish our funky t-shirts even further. We have also enjoyed learning about the South American Fabric Artist Sarah Zapata.
We have had a fabulous term developing further our art skills and knowledge. We have been looking at 3D form and developing our model making talents through building our very own castles. We have had to think carefully about what castles are made of, how to build and form sturdy structures and then to think carefully about what we wanted our castles to look like. We explored a range of textures, colours and patterns. Our final castles were a triumph!
We have also enjoyed learning about the life and work of Henri Matisse. We even had a go at art work inspired by some of his famous works of art. |
