In Maths, our Reception children we have been focusing on the composition of 2,3 and 4. Children know that 2 is made of 1 and another 1, 3 is made of 1 and 1 and 1, and 4 is made of 1 and 1 and 1 and 1. Here are some pictures of our collections of 2, 3 and 4! In Maths, we have continued counting within 100. This week we have focused on using a number line and identifying the number that comes before each multiple of 10.

This week in Team AC we have been learning about partitioning numbers. The children have used various pictorial represeantations to help them with their learning as well as helping them with their reasoning problems.
This week in Team AC we have been learning how to compare numbers using < > and = and partitioning/combining numbers (e.g. 49 = 40 + 9).
In Maths, Reception children have been focusing on counting, cardinality (the knowledge of how many things are in a set and the number name for that quantity) and ordinality. Our Y1 children have continued practising counting to 100 using a Gattegno chart.
In Team AC this week we have been learning about partitioning numbers into 10s and 1s, counting in 10s forwards and backwards and placing numbers on number lines.
We have loved being up an active in our counting! Practicing ordinal counting each day has really helped us in becoming familiar with the flow, sound and sequence of numbers. Additionally, Team CH were asked the question which team has the most coats? We set of searching for the answer. Using our cardinal counting skills we were able to discover that Team JF had the most coats. Also, we furthered our cardinal counting skills by counting how many blocks we could removed before the tower crumbled. This week team CH have continued counting for an ordinal purpose using number lines. We began by talking about all the numbers at the bottom of the number line and noticed that 0-100 all have zero ones, but the tens increase as we move up the number line. Next we moved on to identifying one less than a multiple of ten and recognised that most of the time this number has nine ones. We spent lots of time counting forwards and backwards starting from a variety of positions
In Maths, we have been learning to subitise amounts to 3 (saying how many we see without counting), describing spatial patterns with 3 dots, representing quantities on our fingers in different ways and identifying sub-groups of 1, 2 and 3 within larger arrangements.
Year 1 children have been practising counting within 100 in different ways. We have been ensuring out times tables skills remain top notch and are in the middle of the three week X Table challenge. We are completing in some lightning speeds. In our maths lessons we have been exploring mathematical structures and developing number stories around a variety of different structures and forms. We have been applying the use of our key mathematical vocabulary.
Last week, we started exploring counting. The children worked really hard to count forwards and backwards within 100. We also focused on our number formation.
