Fireworks

We have had so much fun this week learning about fireworks and have enjoyed talking about the bonfires and firework parties that we saw! We have been listening to fireworks and watching a video of a display and we wrote down the colours and sounds we heard. We have been using creative materials to make firework pictures, rolling a ball through paint to create a firework scene on black paper and have been mark making and writing tricky words in glitter!

We have practiced segmenting and blending again this week and are making progress with this. We read a story together and segmented each word. We have also been practicing re-reading sentences from the beginning to make sure we understand a story. We have been reading CVC words and matching them to pictures. This is linked to Phase 2 Letters and Sounds. Some of us have been reading and matching simple Phase 2 sentences.

We have been learning about flat shapes this week. We have been learning to name these simple flat shapes – circle, square, rectangle, oval, pentagon, hexagon, kite, rhombus. We have also been learning to identify and count the sides, corners and points. We have tried guessing the name of a shape when it is covered up and only part of it is shown. We have described what we can see and tried to use the words “curved” and “straight” when talking about the sides. We have also practiced forming our numbers the correct way.

We have enjoyed making poppies using the bottom of plastic bottles. We painted them red and black and these will be displayed with poppies from other classes to show we remember fallen heroes.
