We have thoroughly enjoyed starting our new theme for learning, Amazing Animals, this week. Our focus has been dinosaurs, linked to an interest by lots of the children.
Our book of the week has been "Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus" and the children have learnt to join in with the repeated refrain. We practised saying the different dinosaur names and clapped out the syllables to help us as some are really tricky to say! In our provision, the children have enjoyed using small world dinosaurs to act out stories and they have used a range of loose parts to create their own dinosaur worlds. Our dinosaur swamp has been very popular (cornfour, water and green food colouring). The children have explored it using their hands and fingers, a great sensory experience, and have used some fabulous words to describe it- wet, slimy, sticky, slippy, soft.

Today we celebrated our half term of learning about stories with a wonderful Bedtime Story day. All the children and staff came to nursery dressed in their pyjamas and were invited to bring a teddy and their favourite bedtime story from home! During the session we all snuggled up with our teddies and blankets and enjoyed lots of different stories together. We also enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies, just like at bedtime! We love sharing books in nursery! What is your favourite bedtime story?
We have had a lovely week of learning based around the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We set up our own bridge in nursery and the children used masks of the characters to tell the story with their friends. "Who's that trip-trapping over my bridge?' was heard all over nursery, both in and outside as they role played the story wonderfully!
